The Joker one is meh, especially given its crap art.

The Luthor one, I saw the ending coming a million miles away, but the gorgeous art and the flawless characterization make it entirely worth it. :)

That Joker one... the art is ew, except for that "I'm not a joke!" panel. That's just lovely.

"I'm Your Worst Nightmare". That's bad Joker.

Yeah, the Joker one, aside from an art syle I just don't care for, all but reeks of the stuff that made the Joker stop being "fun" during most of the 1990's and 00's.

And in terms of deconstructing him, it pales to nothing compared to the end of "Return of the Joker", where Terry taunts the Joker with just how NOT funny he is.

The Luthor one is just... random. Why Jimmy Olsen, someone Luthor I'm guessing either knows little about, nor still less cares. If he'd found himself as one of his own absurdly undre-dressed "secretaries" or something it might have had more resonance. Pretty art though

Isn't that partially the point of the one with Lex? Jimmy Olsen is someone he probably doesn't care about in the slightest, and in the grand scheme of things, is insignificant, especially compared to Lex Luthor. To be reduced to that level would be absolute Hell for a man like Lex.

Oh yes, I can see that, but if that IS the case, my question is why Jimmy?

To Luthor he's not just a nobody, he's a nobody who hasn't actually featured much in his life. There would be a counter argument that Jimmy is linked to Superman and so Luthor might have some awareness of his theoretical usefulness (as leverage, a weakspot or the like).

So either from Luthor's POV Jimmy IS a nobody, in which case Luthor wouldn't waste time even knowing about his taste in sweater-vests, or he ISN'T a nobody, in which case he shouldn't have been a candidate for the role of "nightmare fuel".

It just seems overly contrived to make Luthor Jimmy, and not a homeless bum or a checkout clerk.

But really, if he is aware of Jimmy, Jimmy might be even worse than a random bum.

Being insignificant is one thing, but to be someone he views as one of Superman's cronies as well as insignificant? That would be even worse for Lex.

Hmmm, you have a point there...

Would be funnier if Luthor's idea of the most insignificant, powerless little nebbish was...Clark Kent.

It probably wouldn't have been Halloween-esque, as much, but *that* would be comedy gold, right there.

Its Jimmy Olsen because all he does is taking pictures of Superman.

Didn't Jimmy kind of babysit Lena Luthor for a while, when she was Brainiac'd and aged up? I recall during the Superman/Majestic crossover that one of Jimmy's concerns during the timestorm was getting Lena to safety.

What really bugs me about the Joker one is that it is automatically supplanted by a line from Mark Hamil in BTAS

"Dieing is easy, comedy is hard!"

"Dying is easy, Comedy is hard"

That quote predates BTAS by many years. It's been ascribed to many people, including George Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde, Sir Donald Wolfit and Edmund Gween and no one is sure if any of them are true.

I figured as much given that he prefaced it with a "You know what they say bats..." So I'm not surprised to find out that it's a semi famous quote attributed to a number of people.

Oh, Joker. So much melodrama. And Luthor looks kinda cute in his Jimmy outfit.

But I'm not really liking the stories. Kinda meh. And I liked the B:TAS episode better where the same scenario was played out for the Joker. Mustard man! Robin spank!

This issue was meh, meh and also meh.

There's seriouly a whole heap of jobs more anonymous that journalistic photographer. I want to see Lex with a mop and bucket, damn it.

I think part of it is the anonymity, part of it is the inherent Superman worship that goes along with being Superman. Imagine Lex forced to play along with being Superman's none too bright semi sidekick, that would get under his skin pretty fast wouldn't it?

True, playing second fiddle to Superman would really annoy Lex no end. But Jimmy had multiple superhero identities (admittedly mostly sidekicks) and his own title, back in the day. He's not exactly the tea boy anymore.

I'm not saying it a bad story point, because it does work. I'm just saying it could've been more creatively. Like, say, Lex running a street stall selling Superman tshirts.

Well if it helps just remeber they already did something more or less pretty similar in Emperor Joker, just sort of going at it from the other direction....
