I think I made mention of this story a little while back. Thanks for posting it. It's genuinely sweet, and the fact that it's, my god, INGELS drawing it makes it even better.

Totally seems like something that was meant for Kamen. But that they chose Ingels takes the possible saccharinity off it.

Yeah, Ingels wasn't really their go-to guy for sweetness and light.

Which is why it's interesting how this plays against that. I'd really like to know if the story was written with Ingels in mind.

I figured he was helping her, but I also figured she was in on the scam and was secretly his granddaughter or something, so with their good cop/bad cop routine they'd wring this city dry and have a hearty evil laugh together in the last panel.

I remember this story. I always liked it, too.

Of course I'll still say now what someone said then: That wasn't lemonade that Sam was filling the pitcher with!

B-but, My Name is Bruce lead me to believe that the taste was indistinguishable!

Surely Bruce Campbell could never be wrong?

I do question the wisdom of drinking lemonade that just turns up, though.

Totally didn't call it.

In fact I had money on the girl being a horrible deformed monster, or something, and the ugly old man being the victim.

Then I wondered what kind of yellow liquid that was...

Still, the ending was a nice surprise.

A nice ending, I like it!

Kinda reminds me of my dad. He does nice things and doesn't tell anyone about it. I didn't learn he was a long-time supporter of a local homeless shelter until I was around 17. I asked him about it and he said, "It's none of your business that's why. Now go and sweep the garage."

The most giving people are the ones who do it without drawing attention to themselves. =)

I think your Dad taught you a good life lesson: if you're helping people just for the glory, it's not kindness. It's pride.

still if you're not even telling your family about it and you act like it's a source of shame almost, then you're not really setting the best example.

You have a point, but I don't think that's the case here.

There may be some things you don't want to tell your family/friends about because helping people is nothing special. It's what you should be doing anyway for others who need it, so why give it recognition?

You're right that some people might view it as shameful, but there are other reasons for not telling your family such as there's no real point to telling them or you did it because you want to help, not because you want your family to gush over you and think you're a saint.

I'm thinking of the Jewish concept of the mitzvah, where good deeds you do are erased from the Book of Life should you boast about them.
