Blackest Night: Batman #3 Preview
IGN has the Darkest Night: Batman #3.

There is only one, ONLY ONE person Batman (Bruce or Dick) could be calling upon to bail them out.

Alfred. Alfred 'Freddy / Batman's Batman" Thaddeus Crane Pennyworth. Time to bring out the big GUN.

So, beyond the mild headbanging moment that is Dick saying 'I need Babs out of harm's way', why does Damian suddenly know American pop culture?

Also what's the use of codenames if no one uses them? 'Drake' here, 'Damian' there...

To be fair, it's possible Damien isn't speaking loudly enough for Jim to hear, and everyone else knows everyone else's IDs, anyway.

She's in a wheel chair, and they're up against fast moving super powered zombies that don't stay dead. She's honestly nothing but a liability.

I imagine Damian is subvocalising into a throat mike, and Dick and Tim are isolated.

And whilst I have utmost respect for Barbara's skills in escrima, she's really not going to be much help in a prolonged combat with Black Lantern hordes. Much better to get her somewhere where Oracle can do some good.

Ridiculously secure comms?

And I'm sure making Damian watch The Wizard of Oz eight times in a row is a SWELL idea.

Ah, Alfred vs. the Predator. One of the greatest scenes in comics history.

I was looking at the variant cover, and I think Dick is officially out of the sexy captive role. The duty now falls to Damian. And Tim.

Damian's to young to fill the role comfortably for me, but Tim would fill the role nicely if he wasn't wearing such a fugly costume.

Has anyone ever made something of the fact that Alfred shares a surname with Gotham's number one supervillainous expert on FEAR?

Don't think so, as it would seem a mite contrived, as Alfred is a British citizen and the Scarecrow isn't.

Since Alfred's surname is Pennyworth, no, no one ever has.

So, Tim magicked himself from bleeding to death in some Middle-Eastern desert back to Gotham just in time to help Dick fight zombies? So, was that before or after he gets his head kicked in by Two-Face, faces off with Jason and has half the JLA watching Hush? Not ot mention his special appearance in Batgirl?

Dude, CONTINUITY! WHERE IS IT?

Is this the first time we've had the Dynamic Duo starring in four books concurrently?

I'm just going to shut up complaining and enjoy watching my two favourite Batboys fight back-to-back again, albeit in fugly costumes. I MISS TIM'S PRE-OYL ROBIN COSTUME AND THE NIGHTWING COSTUME SO MUCH IT HURTS!

Gotta say, if they're choosing to make Blackest Night as self-contained as possible, it works for me. It's a terrible idea for Gotham anyway.

I think this and BN Superman are just ways off showing how BN is affecting Batman and Superman without disrupting their main storylines. Plus I don't think a day has even passed during BN yes its been months for us but it's only been hours for them.

Ya know, one thing I love about Blackest Night is how the cosmic big bad behind it has recognized how the heroes of earth have stopped past universal reconstruction attempts, and is actually attempting to do something about them first.

Two weird things in this preview are Dick calling Damian "Damian" before he knows Gordon's unconscious. Though the moment of "Robin?" "Yeah?" "No, the OTHER Robin. Damian?" Though I wonder if Tim's answer is supposed to be Tim wanting to be Robin (which he does, canonically) or just that one would expect Red Robin to be called Robin for short. It seems weird to call him "Red" (especially given Jason's new haircolor) and "Red Robin" is kind of a mouthful in fast conversations.

But the worst is the freakin' grammatical error in another panel. I'm going to assume it's due to Dick's being seriously shook up at the Graysons.

I'm so glad Dick's getting rid of Damian for this. The return of the Drakes and Graysons is not a good opportunity for Damian's generic one-liners.

I love that Dick has his hand on Tim's shoulder there. Because a)he loves working with Tim as an equal partner and is glad to have him back for a while and b) Tim had a nasty shock. It's just a nice little visual gift there as they send Damian away, because they both know they're going into a fight that's different for them.

Part of this whole event is supposed to be about Nekron trying to return those who died to death so why are the BLs spending so much time messing with Tim and Dick when there is a member of the Bat family running around whose death was one of the most famous deaths in comics? Why aren't they hunting down Jason first and everyone else second?
