Oh my.

I don't even know who I'm rooting for.

I - I think it's Hercules.

If only to see Loki's face when he gets home and finds Herc and Alflyse on the throne of Asgard.

EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS IS GLORIOUS.

Also why is there no Thor/Hercules fic out there?

It seems like all the old-guard Marvel fanfiction writers lost their taste for it when Kelly "Kielle" Newcomb died. There isn't much Marvel fanfiction period anymore, let alone bizarre slash pairings.

Mostly because the writers burst into tears halfway through at how depressing it is adapting the new chracterisations.

Yes, because people who write fanfiction for comic books are always such slavish adherents to modern continuity. The entire fucking Marvel line could be about Night Nurse right now and it wouldn't slow the fanfic roll.

Even back in the late nineties where I couldn't swing a dead cat without tripping over somebody's ninety-chapter X-ficathon, I remember a metric shit-ton of reboots or "fixes." alt.comics.fanfiction was full of people deciding to ignore continuity and go off their own way. (Also, Pryde/Wisdom shippers.)

Okay, so maybe my arsey friends just had me sit through Planet Terror and I'm generally in shock about the level of pornographic violence and depressingly unfunny tomfoolery in any entertainment, especially that put out by Marvel.

I was just saying that anyone who'd enjoy writing a Thor/Herc slashfic would possibly be discontented with the current status quo of Marvel in that there is a horrible shadow creeping over everything and everyone and no character is safe.

I cannot imagine anyone who'd be interested in writing fanfiction about Marvel's version of Hercules would be terribly discontented with a status quo in which Hercules's book has a very strong claim to being the best book that Marvel is currently publishing.

Actually, sometimes it does slow the roll - the Steve/Tony shippers, at least, are kind of punch-drunk from the last three years. Fingers crossed for next year...

Did Steve/Tony shippers exist in any great numbers beforehand? It always seemed like the fanfiction crew was largely concentrating on the X-Men.

Did you ever consider that the writing and characterization has gotten so bad in Marvel that fans just have lost interest?

The sales figures do not seem to bear that interpretation out. S_D is unique in their widespread distaste for much of the Marvel line; many other comics forums are nigh-united in their belief that, overall, the quality level of Marvel's output right now is actually quite high.

Good writers are putting out well-drawn comics: Ultimate Spider-Man, Dark Avengers, Jason Aaron on Wolverine: Weapon X, Whedon and now Ellis's delay-plagued Astonishing X-Men, Jeff Parker's Agents of Atlas, Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente on Hercules and Hulk, Secret Warriors, post-Ennis Punisher MAX, Immortal Iron Fist, etc. There are certainly low points, such as Ultimatum, but Marvel is currently doing quite well for itself on average.

When I read, for example, the comics forum on Something Awful, it's difficult to believe that they and S_D are discussing the same comic books.

If you just want to starting reading the regular issues, the upcoming "Assault on New Olympus" story arc begins with a special prologue in November.

For trades, well, there's four of them at present, they're all good (Secret Invasion being my favourite; Dark Reign has the most relevance to the current story arc).

There's also the oversized hardcover which collects Incredible Hulk #106-112, Incredible Hercules #113-115, and the Hulk vs. Hercules: When Titans Collide oneshot.

Ok, I've finally seen the error of my ways. I need to start reading this comic ASAP.

Problem is, it's freaking issue #136! How do I buy 136 issues D:

Has this series always been this good, or is this a recent jump in quality?

Well lucky for you Herc didn't take over the book until 113. Though technically he and Amadeus have been the stars since 106.

So you need to catch up on 30 because since Herc stole the show it's always been good.

Wait, the book is called "Incredible Hercules", and Herc himself wasn't the star until issue 106? How does that work?

You can't keep calling it "Incredible Hulk" when Hulk isn't actually in the book.

Couldn't they have stopped the "Incredible Hulk" series and started the "Incredible Herc" series from issue #1?

They seem to take any dumb excuse to renumber a series from issue #1 to boost sales, yet when they actually have a very good reason to do so (I can't think of a better reason to renumber a series than changing its lead character), they don't?

I think boy Zeus is one of my new favorite characters!!
