Books of Magic: Summonings
Hi, I'm inflicting just one more Books of Magic post on you. This is from the beginning of the "Summonings" TPB, showing Timothy Hunter of the future (Khara calls him "Mr. Wrong" because SPOILER: he's an asshole) starting to realize something has gone very, very off. (9 scans, issue more than 22 pages.)

The line about smiling and holding still might be one of the most chilling in the entire series for its implications alone.

hmmm i've been meaning to look this up, but never knew where to start. And the Verigo line seems very.... convoluted... keep meaning to get into Books of Magic and Sandman....

The whole Barbatos/future Tim thing always gave me cold shivers. It's just damn creepy.

That cut text summation reminds me of one of Jack Vance's Demon Princes (Viole Falushe, for those who've read the stories).

Nothing makes sense to me.

But that guy looks like Cyclops, and that makes this even weirder.

Hahaha. Add one more degree of weirdness to anything: make someone look like Cyclops.

Books of Magic really annoyed me. It had great moments, like this one, but it ultimately went nowhere. It's like the writer had flashes of inspiration that made him write memorable scenes, but he was unable to tie everything into a coherent story.

They changed writers along the line, which might have something to do with its lack of coherency.

Weird... I never had a problem with the overall story of Books of Magic, even with the writer shift. Well, it wasn't a planned-out and structured story like Sandman; to me Books of Magic was all about the journey. And the journey, such as I saw it, is Tim Hunter's personal development and maturation, which I felt was handled extremely well over the seventy-five issues.
