Spreading unconfirmed rumors for beginners
Well Geoff Johns announced that he and Francis Manapul will be on Flash, I understand that Johns will stay on Green Lantern that he will head up a new core Justice League Of America title to be announced shortly. So while Geoff keeps control over the League and two of its members, friend and colleague Grant Morrison will be keeping the others in check, continuing a monthly Batman book but also adding a Superman and Wonder Woman book to the mix, for the full Trinity set.

From BleedingCool.com

I realize that I'm in the minority when it comes to my blind, seething hatred for Grant Morrison's writing style and everything he represents in the industry, so I'll reserve my vitriol for later. But giving Grant Morrison--Grant "girl power, bondage, and disturbed sexuality" Morrison--a Wonder Woman title? Be not proud.

For legality, something that has nothing to do with anything, but should at least bring a smile to someone's face. From Secret Six #9:

Grant Morrison should write the entire DCU for a year. It would at the very least be highly interesting.

Well, even those of us who don't care for anything he's done since JUSTICE LEAGUE often don't go that far, it's true. But at least half of Wonder fandom has been fighting with the other half of Wonder fandom about how much we don't like this idea since that rumor first hit the wire, so you're hardly alone there.

It's okay, we can be in the minority together! I hate everything he's done lately with a firey passion, while I merely dislike his earlier work. Also? He has no frickin' idea how women work. (Or so I've judged from his writing.)

He's halfway through a better-than-most Batman run and finished a critically acclaimed Superman run - why not let him have a crack at Wondy? Especially because, as far as I can tell, he's actually going to try and get into the better parts of the character - her FC role was about exploring the things he didn't like, such as the disturbed sexuality aspects; now, he's going to try and do for her what All-Star did for Supes. One particular quote I liked, in interview with Clive Barker:

Morrison distilled his mission statement into this: “To make it work, to give [Wonder Woman] a sexuality that isn’t exploitive, because that’s too easy; but also to give her a [narrative] power.”

I'd hardly say that you're in the minority when it comes to disliking Grant's work. After all, for as many people as I know that loved Batman RIP and the idea that it was a celebration of what makes Batman who he is and that he can triumph over any enemy because he is Batman, there were easily as many that disliked it. He's divisive, easily moreso than Johns, who can also be regarded in the same way - And Johns is someone who easily writes worse versions of Batman and various others than Morrison.

I don't like everything he's written, and I'm much more into his superhero work than some of his more out-there stuff, but I'll give him a chance with these. If it gives Diana two books, at least for a while, I guess we can't complain too much. I doubt Gail wants to leave yet, anyway, so you'll at least have that to counterbalance what you don't like.

Also, does anyone know if Johns is taking over the main JLA book, which is under his buddy Robinson's control very, very soon? Or is he getting his own little title and sandbox to play with?

The thing that really scares me about this (other than the Wondy issues I've already addressed) is that, if it ends up anything like what they're saying here, Morrison and Johns will have as much control over DC as Bendis and Millar have over Marvel.

Two guesses why I don't generally read Marvel. Come on, I'll wait. I only sometimes like Morrison better than the other three mentioned here, but goddammit DC, I just started buying new books again this year, don't run me off like this.

After the superb ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, I'm giving Morrison the benefit of the doubt. Yes, FINAL CRISIS wasn't great, but I suspect that the stupid set of series that spoiled half of what he wanted to do (COUNTDOWN, DEATH OF THE NEW GODS) and got it WRONG telegraphed his best ideas, and distorted his worst ones. When Morrison is good, he's VERY good (his run on Doom Patrol, the initial JLA run through Mageddon/World War III, All-Star Superman) and I'll be interested to see what he might do with Wonder Woman.

I wish they'd keep Gail, though. That they'd bring back SENSATION COMICS or something as a seperate WW book for Morrison to play in.

Well, Morrison's obviously top notch on Superman (All-Star Supes being one of the best books out there) and his Batman books have been great for the most part, but I'm not confident he's that into Wonder Woman or what direction that would go.

I'm actually okay with this myself. I think he could do well with her. (Superman, a character that I 90% of the time find tedious, was actually quite interesting under his run on All Star). Not saying he will, but I see no point to getting annoyed/outraged/angry with it until it's actually out so we can see it.

While I'm not convinced that Morrison is the best choice for writing a Wonder Woman title, I'm not *too* worried either. I'm not a huge WW officionado and I'll admit that I've yet to pick up the Final Crisis trades, (I don't read Morrison's stuff until it's collected these days, saves on headaches) so I've not seen what he's done with her in that. What I have read though is his JLA run and I distinctly remember Diana being written as pretty damned awesome, for example her fight with Grandmotherbox in "Rock of Ages" is still one of my favourite comics moment ever. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

As a Morrison fan, I agree to a certain extent. His best work has always been either on the lower tier characters that he can do whatever he pleases or on his own creations. The further away he stays from the Big Guns the happier I will be.

Morrison's work is generally really great so I don't see it being a problem as long as he doesn't take the title FROM Gail but has his own.

The big problem I think is that Grant doesn't tend to write Wonderwoman himself it's always when she's on teams or in large casted books and his story telling works into making things large and almost impossible to believe stories like Seven Soldiers or Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader. He knows how to do so with Superman and Batman since they're very very archeypical the godlike alien or the ultimate human etc...but he doesn't quite understand how to do so with Wonderwoman.

I think this'll help him understand the character.

For all his more out-there stuff, his run on JLA (and indeed, his run at "All Star Superman") showed that at his best, he knows how to do iconic figures.

And this "I hate everything he represents" -- wow, people who actually like the iconic figures they're writing. How dare he? -- is the part that makes my teeth grind.

Plus, I don't know. I like watching unhappy fans rant. It's fun! So either way, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm gonna enjoy the ride. This should be fun! They could always, you know, not spend money on the stuff they don't like. I do that. It's quite a good plan. But meh.

I have no opinion on Morrison writing WW, but I'm just amazed that Marvel and DC (both part of large corporations now) would hand over the keys to the kingdom to only two individuals within their respective organizations.

From a business perspective, isn't that rather risky? What if one or both get hit by a bus?

I see all this hubbub over Morrison, but I have to ask: Really? No one minds the utter lack of ambition of a Johns production, not to mention the rampant sexism, bizarre obsession with gore and utter inability to write more than two types of characters?

I mean, at least when Morrison fails, it's fun. I mean, Final Crisis was a mess, but it was a gorgeous, insane, creative mess. Compare that to Infinite Crisis - all the mess, triple the bland.
