Books of Magic: from the Reckonings TPB
Molly has been kidnapped by the retarded pink dinosaurs and is now trapped in Hell, forced to listen to the Governess because the Governess is torturing Crimple. Molly is told to read from a book. (8 scans, issue longer than 22 pages; writer John Ney Rieber and illustrator Peter Snejbjerg.)

But the queen's sister was mad she didn't receive an invitation, and decided to give Violetta a fourth gift — whenever Violetta stamped her foot and wished, it would come true.

Tim also had to read a story. His was shorter. I'll get to Gotham Central later.

Very odd, as I recall.

Mn, I've seen that font for that "L" before, but where?

Something to do with death...and a note of some kind...

Yes, I am indeed quite lame.

Unrelated tough, I love your icon.

One of my favorite BoM issues! I just love the art, especially the not-girl-shadow in the trees.

::shudder:: Not my cup of tea. This series never captured the magic or delight of the original mini. It always seemed to be about terrible loss, with only brief breaks where the darkness was staved off.

While I love the original mini, I don't exactly find it delightful. The first four TPBs in particular are very much about adolescence and have wonderfully whimsical parts tempered with serious, bittersweet dramatic parts. Tim's life is hardly dark when compared to, say, that of another magician's, Constantine.

So the poor girl stops being a doormat for five seconds, and it costs her a fate worse than death?

...Why do people like this series, again?

That was the point. Remember that Molly is trapped in Hell. The book deliberately tells stories like that in an attempt to make you feel small and frightened and that you should behave/obey/whatever. It wasn't a Life Lesson.

The point is that it's a horribly twisted fairy tale. Molly is being forced to read it by a horrible demoness of hell, least the lady chop off bits of her fairy friend. We're *supposed* to be horrified and disturbed by the implications of the story.

I have to say I also enjoy the little dig at traditional fairy tales as well - while there are many that praise the intelligence and resourcefulness of girls, there are also just as many that praise them for being pretty, quiet lumps.
