You could spend years writing an annotated edition of Robert Anton Wilson. He packed so many obscure references into his fiction. The ILLUMINATUS trilogy alone works on any number of levels, and the puns in themselves are so clever.
I don't know if you can ever talk someone into liking a comic (or a band or a movie)by pointing out what you think they should enjoy. That hardly ever worked on me even as a kid. Sometimes you'll see someone comment about a strip and it raises your curiosity enough to give it a chance. But I don't really know if it's worth trying to convert anyone. You may never like KRAZY KAT, but there's lots of other great art out there.
