They also pulled the "I can do nothing; there is a force making you die" in The Other storyline. Everyone was similarly powerless in May's dying. The implication is that Mephisto twisted the vision so Peter couldn't feel he could trust the natural course of things.

If Dr Strange couldn't do anything about those, or even when the Sentry seemed to be messing with space-time in his history or even in the recent series, why would he suddenly be capable now? Doc has a very limited amount of battles he can win against Mephisto at.

Mmm, Strange being powerless against the forces of Editorial Fiat aside, have him, or anyone else, even noticed the effects of the Mephisto deal?

Some people are aware that they once knew Peter's identity and forgot, but that's it. Dr. Strange hasn't made any comment at all about it.

To be fair, over the past couple of years Strange had a crisis of confidence, abdicated his position, and had a Dormammu-possessed Parker Robbins hounding him pretty relentlessly. Not noticing weirdness around Spider Man and may doesn't strike me as all that unlikely.
