As for the patchwork, the best answer was in Spider-Man Civil War, where Spidey goes hand-to-hand with Cap - Spidey is Cap's superior in strength, speed and agility, and Cap outmatches him through sheer skill, which Spidey remarks on, including some references to how smooth and and integrated his whole fighting technique is. Jeet Kune Do, after all, was a patchwork at first.
