70s Talia
By request, for [info]runespoor7, who requested 70s Talia*

From Detective #411, by Dennis O'Neil, Bob Brown and Dick Giordano.
Reprinted in Batman: Tales of the Demon TPB

*Or, requested, more specifically: Talia being awesome (70s Talia), I've been told it exists.

I'll leave Talia's level of awesome to the individual, though I think she's much more likable here than she is say, now. And Batman thinks she's pretty awesome, especially the next few stories. (Batman to Talia: "Anything! I owe you my life!")

I do think the story's fun. Batman jumps off a train dressed as an elderly matron! A fight to the death by 'tetsu-bishi' in Gotham's Statue of Liberty Freedom! Prose like: "Flailing Bo-Sticks savagely swarm over the Batman. Battering, breaking... until he hitches forward into the welcome relief of oblivion." And Batman punching a bull in the face!

Batman is momentarily blinded...

Today's Batman would've hauled her in for 2nd Degree Murder... Here, he's all "Yeah, that was fucked up. I know..."

No she would have try to jump Batman afterward, because really that's all she wants to do nowadays.

LOL! I love him saying that. But taggerung's right, she wouldn't have cried today either.

She would of made a comment about him being inferior. Then maybe kick him for threatening batman after the incident with the train.

She's basically a Bond girl here, right?

And Bruce Wayne is Roger Moore (at least, to me it is).

And it's remarkable that she was much more awesome as basically a Bond girl than she is now.

This looks really interesting and cool.

Are you sure that's Talia?

YES.

Whoever that lady is running around nowadays, I have no idea.

THIS is the real Talia.

We've been saddled with a skrull for a while now.

Damn skippy. There are only two women who've ever really deserved the love of the Batman*, and Talia's one of 'em.

* at his best -- no ASBAR, for instance

Cruelty to animals! Blasphemy! That aside, Talia hasn't really grown on me that much, what with her whoe "Detective! Beloved! My one and only!" shtick. It gets sappy after a while. But it's fun to see her as a damsel-in-distress, there are practically no such creatures in comics today. All women have to be badass.

I can never see Talia show up and not think about what they did to her in Batman Beyond. That was beyond messed up.

Oh, thanks!

You're right, it's rather interesting. No trace of beloved. No rape as a mean to build an army. And Bat-hugs.

Did Talia really study medicine? Because that's pretty awesome.

Just what has Talia been doing recently that's so heinous? I mean, I know that she's Damian's mom, and evidently she's done a piss-poor job of it for him to turn out the whiny little toerag he is, but otherwise, I was under the impression that she was still a fairly viable character. (Of course, I haven't been reading her lately, but still.)

Well...Morrison writes her like an idiot (making huge plans all for what? Batman's attention? and then puts a lot of cliches on her...) and Tomasi wrote her with a bit more dignity in Nightwing, but her plans were twisted and she didn't feel remorse till the very end, which is probably better than none...but yeah. yikes.

Is the bull's name actually Ferdinand? I know Rucka likes referencing Denny, but I thought that was only as goes The Question! There has got to be a story there.

There is! Ferdinand the Bull is a classic children's story.

Probably one of my two or three favorite kid's stories ever. A tribute to the virtues of not being a jock.

And cork trees!

I have to say, I kind of prefer today's grown-up Talia, as developed by Morrison. This one had no personality besides "My love!"
