Log: Pike & Chapel, asking the question
Christopher Pike seemed to have been born to command a starship - his father had been a Starfleet officer and the only person to make it to officer faster than Chris Pike was Jim Kirk - a fact that both of them would always remember. However, he looked as at home astride a horse as he did on the bridge of the Enterprise. It had been easy enough to adapt from horseback riding to riding a pegasus. And Lauren was taking to it easily. Chris wasn't comfortable enough to let her fly a pegasus solo - although he'd put her on a pony solo - but he was fine taking her up with him, one arm securely wrapped around his daughter, the other on the reins as he led his pegasus through a series of easy tricks. His daughter's laughter caused a warmth to spread through his chest as he finally brought his pegasus back to the ground and waited for Christine to land. Christine would never forget the day that Chris had insisted she ride a horse. It was part of his therapy and she was there to watch him while he worked but after a few sessions, he decided she needed to ride too. She’d never been near a horse until she’d started working with him and she wasn’t entirely sure she wanted to get near one then. Finally she agreed to do it and discovered that she loved it, she had many fond memories of rides they’d taken together on his ranch when they could get away from the city and be alone without any worries. The pegasus though was something different but once she was on it, Christine loved it. The best part though was watching Lauren with her father. The little girl clearly adored him and took to being on a horse (even a flying one) as if she’d been born to it. When Christine landed and she got off, she walked over to where they were waiting and grinned at the two of them. “That was fun,” she said. “Did you like it, Pookie?” Lauren laughed and nodded her head. “I flew on a horse, Mommy!” she cried. “Can we do it again?” "Later, Stardust," Christopher said, helping Lauren off the pegasus and giving her a kiss as he settled her on his hip. He was pleased with how well both Lauren and Christine had taken to it. "You looked good up there, Christine," he said with a smile. He leaned over and whispered in Lauren's ear before putting her down. The toddler ran over to Christine and tugged on her shirt. "Mommy, Mommy! Daddy has something to ask you!" She raised her eyebrows at the nickname and smiled. It was cute and it fit. When she felt Lauren tugging on her she bent down and picked her up. “He does? Do you know what it is?” Lauren laughed and squirmed out of her mother’s arms, eager to be back on her feet. “I do know!” she said and looked up at Chris. “Well Daddy? Do it!” Christine laughed, having no clue what was going on but it certainly had Lauren excited. “Well Daddy,”she echoed Lauren’s words. “What did you want to ask me?” Christopher smiled, handing the Pegasus off to an attendant before coming over to Lauren and Christine. He reached into a pocket and got down on one knee, the ring still clasped in his hand. Before he could say anything, though-- "Daddy wants you to marry him!" Lauren exclaimed, too eager to contain her excitement. "You're going to say yes, right Mommy?" Christopher couldn't help but grin as he looked up at Christine. "I guess the cat's out of the bag. So? What do you say? Will you marry me, Christine?" Her first instinct when he got down on his knee was to tell him to get up because he knew she shouldn’t be doing that and then she remembered that he was healed. Then she saw the ring and her mouth fell open. “Oh my…” she never finished the sentence because Lauren proposed. She looked over at her daughter and said “Well thank you, pookie but let’s let Daddy ask.” Christine turned to look at him and blinked the tears out of her eyes. “Yes, of course I’ll marry you. Oh my god….yes! Stand up so I can hug you!” Christopher stood up with an ease that he hadn't had in most of the years Christine had known him, wrapping an arm around her waist and kissing her soundly before kissing Lauren as well. "Good job helping, Stardust. Couldn't have done it without you." He turned back to Christine, kissing her forehead. "Should have done this ages ago," he said as he slid the ring on her finger. Christine had given up trying not to cry and she wiped her face, watching as he slid the ring on her finger. It was beautiful but it could have been out of a box of cracker jacks and she wouldn’t have minded. “Well yeah but if you had, we wouldn’t have had our own personal cheerleader.” she reached out and smoothed Lauren’s hair. “I love you,” she said softly when she looked back up at him. "I know it's only been a few weeks, but can't imagine life without her." As if on cue, Lauren reached for her father and Christopher settled her on his hip, sliding his other hand around Christine. "I love you too." Christopher wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth, and this seemed a bit too good to be true. He squeezed Christine. "I don't care whether or not we have a big wedding or not, but I'm not sure I want a long engagement." “I think we’ve probably had the longest unofficial engagement in history,” she said with a grin. She’d been engaged before and it had been a disaster to put it mildly. Christine had never really thought about getting married until she had fallen for Chris but even then she hadn’t been sure that it would ever happen. Not because they didn’t want it but because of circumstances. Now her dream was coming true. “All I ask if a little time to plan because I’m sure that someone is going to want to be as involved as possible,” she tilted her head in Lauren’s direction. “So maybe June? That’s a little over a month away and I’m sure it won’t be hard finding a place to do it, Atlantis is beautiful, anywhere would be perfect.” Christopher chuckled, shifting Lauren as she settled into sleepy heaviness on his shoulder, her fist wrapped tightly in his shirt. "June could work. And you do deserve a proper wedding." He settled his hand on her hip, thumb stroking over her hip. "I was thinking I might ask Kirk to be my best man." Christine smiled. “I wouldn’t expect you to ask anyone else.” she knew how much Jim meant to Chris, he was like a son to him and she wanted him to be a part of this as much as Chris did. “We have a flower girl already, that goes without saying. I’ll ask Nyota to be my maid of honor, but Jim has to promise not to rip her dress off until after the ceremony.” she grinned. It was hard to believe that this was happening and as much as she wanted to think about it, she had something else on her mind right now. “Um since the little one is about to be out cold, why don’t we go home and we can celebrate with the door locked of course, while she takes a nap. I’d say she’d good for at least a couple of hours.” "I'm sure Jim will be on his best behavior. But I'm a bit worried about what he'll do for a speech," Pike teased before brushing his lips against Lauren's head. "Home sounds good. There might even be a bottle of champagne in the fridge.." he said with a smirk. |
