Game 73
Who: The Flock
Where: The Arena
When: Day 107, eearly morning

All was silent through the twisted tunnels of Sabra La Tau. The morning torches began to light, and the flock began to graze.

It was quite the ordinary routine for everyone but the poor, weary blanks. Dutifully they continued to play the game, hoping to protect their loved ones. But were they protecting friends or foes? Just how close were the sheep to ending the game, or ending their lives. . .

Let's read on to find out!

Huuh... Do you think that loophole would really work?

You mean actually keeping us from having to kill an extra team? No. I think it'll bounce to the next highest team, or randomly if the rest are even.

Personally, I think the safest way is to get one of our bystanders and draw lots here and now. Pile the votes on the selected two. In lieu of that, the two teams under you on the list, and if that doesn't work ...

Only the remaining teams get a vote in this poll, idiot. Bystanders piling votes isn't gonna count for shit.

I meant have a bystander draw the lots. Roll the dice. Whatever you wanna call it, as long as it's not one of us randomizing the numbers. I know they can't vote.

[snorts]

I've already made my decisions. If all you're doing is random nonsense like that, I don't care.

Your choice. Have fun living with it.

Jim. . . Even if we know some "wolves" are even with "sheep" now, pretending to make things "fair" now just feels cheap to everyone that's already been slaughtered in this game. We didn't kill them out of any idea of fairness. People will always protect their loved ones, you know that. Orion's friends won't let Orion die because of some dice roll when they know they can change it.

It's never been about who's more innocent, and if it is, I don't. . . think that's right. It's been about ending the game with as few bodies or loved ones dead as possible. Just like Trickster's games. The only thing this reveal did was make the option of killing all the wolves pointless.

That's exactly what I've been arguing. There's no option here that keeps us from killing people or failing to protect the people we love. We do have an option to turn it back into a game again, and not an issue of protecting or not protecting.

I'm saying that wouldn't really feel like doing much. Maybe even make it feel worse. Saying it's better to kill a team that's killed at this point. . . I doubt you'd be able to convince Pyxis Orion "deserves" to die less than anyone else when they died for your sake, you know?

If people don't want to do things randomly, it won't be because they failed to see the "only truly fair answer" of the game, or anything like that. Everyone's just human, same as always.

It sure says something to the people who chose not to, even when it would've been smart. It says "be ruthless next time and don't even bother putting up a fight, because everyone else is trying to dick you over."

... I'm going to Pyxis after the game. And Del, and everyone else we voted for. I can't undo anything that I've done already, but I can try and make the healing process easier. 'cause damn it's gonna be tough. I'd rather start now, while we're still in the game.

. . .

You don't know what it'll say. I don't either. These games mean something different to everyone. Pyxis and Cygnus are more mad at me for "ganging up" on their teammate than the fact that we voted to kill them. Hydra's lost it completely.

I mean... haven't we been around long enough to know we're not learning anything new, here?

That's why I'm trying to get the emotion out of it, at least for this last round. Save what sanity we have left, start salvaging the sanity that people have lost already. ... I think you have a teammate who'd agree with me.

[... rubs at the back of his head]

I get you, though. I'm not gonna fault anybody at this point if that's their honest reason. Just don't pretend there isn't another option.

. . . In the end I don't really feel any different than I did in a lot of these games.

The big breaks are bad, but it's the little cracks that really build up.

I get that you want some sort of even odds, but this isn't an even situation. And I don't want to see Allen risk himself either.

How isn't it even? Because some people haven't killed? That's not a sheep or a wolf thing. If it's just a "we found out you're wolves so now you're stuck," then go the whole way and get rid of all three of us.

Personally, I think it's gonna be more damaging to your teammate to make the choice to kill someone, especially now that there isn't even a good pretense for doing it.

[info]hemogobbled

Just so. Shouldn't the teams that have killed people be the ones to die? If what we really want is to avoid hard feelings, then clear the air by letting the guilty be punished.

Then you can take Orion's name off the list. We haven't killed outside of placing votes.

If I could edit the list, I'd be happy to. But I've died already, and in this body, can't do anything but talk.

If your teammate voted on us, tell him to move it. If he's on Del, then I guess he's fine, assuming they're wolves and have killed. We never met with the others, so I don't know for sure if they are.

It's more complicated for Allen. I'm not going to tell him which of his friends to kill. Sorry, but you'll have to talk to him yourself.
