When there was no one who would or could challenge them for their dominion of earth and sea and sky. This golden age seemed to last forever as the Gods and Goddesses of Olympus loved and fought and quarreled among themselves, making the world turn, the seasons change. They saw the rise and fall of cities, states, and then, empires. And through it all they were loved and hated but always worshiped. There had always been pockets of Others, strangers to their lands who held to false beliefs in strange deities, but the Gods and Goddesses laughed and scorned them from on high, sending them plagues and punishments to torment them and sting their pride. As Rome grew into the secular power, the Olympians smiled and grew complacent. And then, in 391 AD, the Gods and Goddesses received a Mortal Blow. Their own high priest, the Pontifex Maximus, the Emperor Constantine, declared Christianity the State Religion, outlawing paganism and making the worship of the Gods and Goddesses of Olympus and their Roman identities illegal. Now, the year is 2009, and they have been reborn as mortals, their souls returned from the void by the worship brought of a faithful few. The consequences of using the red matter was a backlash, but instead of just creating black holes and ripping holes in the space time continuum, it's also ripped holes in the dimensional continuum and it's pulling people into the new world. All sorts of people with no real home, arriving with anything on them at the time and a communicator that would attract the attention of the Enterprise. these are the voyages of the starship enterprise. [01 Jul 2009|05:23pm] Charles Xavier established the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in 1985, a high-school level institute for children with special talents. Previously, his work with the "Mutant X Gene" was considered preposterous by most of the scientific community, and many expressed that "finding logic in the 'gifts' of psychics and fortune tellers was a waste of taxpayer money". The idea that any number of "supernatural" abilities could be explained by a common genetic abnormality was unheard of, and Xavier was practically laughed out of the scientific community. When the school was developed, no one was quite sure under what criteria he selected his attendees, the student body count of the first year being only fifty-six. Over the next five years that number more than doubled, and has remained at around 250 students every year since. In the past ten years, the idea of "mutants", became more widespread, though no official statements were ever made. Most of the population in the United states still strongly considered the idea to be ridiculous openly. Still, speculation and paranoia grew, and the word "mutant" became more commonplace. Over the past couple years it seems that Xavier has been "recruiting" students more actively than ever. x_academy is an AU, Marvel universe school rp that focuses on the every day events and relationships of the students and faculty of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
