[05 Jun 2009|04:39am]

Welcome to Reading. It's a place where the sun is always shining, and people always have a place to be. Where people dress up to leave the house, and always have something interesting to talk about. Where nursery rhymes aren't just in books, it's where they are alive. It's where you can find Humpty Dumpty sitting on a wall, and an old lady who lives in a shoe. If one could step into the world of fiction, you'd find yourself in Reading. Life here can be magical and terrible all at once. Reality in Reading is not always realistic. And things are not always as they seem.

Underneath the sunny exterior lies a much darker Reading. The only thing bigger than the rhymes themselves, are the crimes that seem to surround them.

The Gilded Court, a Royal Harry Potter AU Game! [05 Jun 2009|09:35am]

The Royal Family of Great Britain has a secret.

For the past 400 years, the throne has been held by wizards who are oath and treaty bound to keep their magic a secret. While muggles fall under the parliamentary rule and see the monarchy as a symbol of their country, wizards fall under the exclusive rule of King Lucius I. The king has only one heir, and if Prince Draco does not marry and produce a son, the crown could leave the bloodline and pass to the Longbottoms, a family who stands for everything the Malfoys do not. Nobles are choosing sides, and the ever witch in Britain has hopes of being the future queen.

But there is an even greater secret

Since 1944, all muggle borns have had a binding spell cast on them at birth. The public thinks this spell keeps them from using their magic until they attend Hogwarts however, only a few select people know the truth: it restricts muggle borns' magic for life. The fact muggle born magic is weaker to keep the Monarchy's ideals in power, but there are rumblings of equality and wanting to move to a more muggle like system in the air.

If this secret is discovered, it will change everything.

WELCOME TO

Magic School is a Charmed/Harry Potter CrossOver game set in 2025.
What if the Salem Witches' Institute mentioned in Harry Potter happens to be the very same Magic School that has a door directly into the Halliwell Manor? Perhaps centuries ago the Ministry of Magic orchestrated a separation of Church and State that excluded the Elders and WhiteLighters from interfering with European witchcraft. But their reach did not extend to the American colonies where true magic was stifled and only brought into the light in recent generations thanks to the tireless work of WhiteLighters. Now, in 2025, after two great battles have been won against Voldemort and the Ultimate Power, things have changed. Both Hogwarts and Salem Institute are open again. But when the peace of both sides is threatened again, Potters and Halliwells will have to unite wizards and witches everywhere under a common cause.

Lots seek any for pan-fandom RPG! [05 Jun 2009|02:52pm]
Anyone can drop into this little English town -- anyone, from any time, place or world. Getting there is so easy that many people don't even mean to go; the challenge is building a life there.

Now there's a Shakespeare villain and an anime villain running a little restaurant where the universal flotsam meet. Don't sit at the corner table, or the parrot might bite you. Oh, and the dragon bites, too, but only if you make fun of his height. While you're spending time at the [info]bearandbarnacle, you may have a chance to talk to Cesare Borgia or Lucius Malfoy. If you have a mystery to be solved, Sherlock Holmes may be there for breakfast. If you wait until dark, a certain poetic vampire may visit for a drink. If you're just thirsty, talk to Iago, because he's given up soldiering for bartending. And if you need an alien shot, Jack Harkness is just down the street. Magical services are offered by Victoire Weasley for a small fee. Hitman services are offered by the Joker, but we don't know what he would want for them. Also, he has a steamroller for rent.

Want to play? Make a character journal, read the rules, and fill out a quick application.

-DO apply for any established fandom. A book, a movie, a webcomic, a TV series -- anything!
-DON'T apply for OC's (they must be at least mentioned in a published work), Mary Sues, real people (unless they are historical figures belonging to a work of fiction), or duplicate characters. There are a limited number of characters who will be rejected because their presence alongside existing characters will cause the game to fall apart.
-DO use reasonably proper grammar -- we're not sticklers, but we will reject if your writing is completely incomprehensible.
-DON'T break the rules of RP etiquette -- godmodding or wank will result in the boot, after one and only one warning and at the sole discretion of the moderators.
-DO come have fun! This is intended to be a crazy, sometimes funny, sometimes touching, sometimes wildly weird game. Everyone is welcome to join in!

The requirements are only one post a month. Your character will be joining this lot. Come have fun with us - your application will be replied to within three days.

Erased: Where Cartoons Meet Reality! [05 Jun 2009|03:18pm]
It started with Pixar. While Woody felt himself being replaced by a shiny, new Rocketman, the two dimensional cartoon world saw the beginning of what would be their end. Some cartoons had already slipped into a comfortable retirement, but most saw the death of their own genre as the three dimensional world took over. But, instead of being erased from pop culture history, the old world entered the new. Broke through it, in fact.
Roger Rabbit was the first to leave Toontown. He had always been known for having one foot in the door and one out, but better for being completely obsolete as soon as his movie ended. One morning he woke up in the real life body of Roger Baxter, an up and coming television star. The two Rogers were forced to make sense of each other, exist in the same body and help other cartoons that were jumping off the page into the streets of Los Angeles.
This is Erased. A game about your childhood and how it just can't seem to slip away.

Life is a series of open books

People get lost in the pages of books all the time, whisked away into worlds of imagination created by talented authors. People leave the real world behind for just a little bit as they sink into the written word.

Couldn't it go both ways? What if while you're reading about the characters in the book; they are reading you?

Perhaps you remember it; that quaint little book shop, it has big bay windows which always displays some book of interest to those special few, beckoning them to pause in their busy life, step inside and maybe look just a little closer. The Bookstores motto is "Life is a series of Open Books", it's shelves are packed with books of every kind, thick, thin, small, tall and wide. Not just books, anything that contains a story, or even just a page. Everything is packed; racks, shelves, and sometimes just stacked on the floor or available counter-space, all in a seeming disarray with no real organized system. Some fire hazard surely.

You never really caught the name of the place, something just drew you through the shelves and racks until you found some particular piece of literature... Perhaps you took it to the cashier, some elderly type who smiled kindly and rung up your purchase, placing it in a simple blue bag with little more than a passing 'Good choice', perhaps you tucked it into your jacket and slinked out the door unwilling to meet the shopkeepers eye, whatever the circumstance, you somehow managed to aquire something to read.

Perhaps you never went to the shop at all.. maybe your parents, or grandparents did and you simply found the book and receipt years later.

Maybe you read it right away, maybe you tucked it into your bedside drawer and forgot about it for months, maybe you are sorting out the attic and run across the book, either way, sooner or later; you find yourself opening the pages and begin to read. But this book it's special, the more you read, the further into the story you go, until you're finished reading it's all you can dream about, more and more as you read you feel yourself drawn toward a particular Persona. More and more you recognize things in your own life that could parallel that Persona, you see yourself as that Persona, you dream of their life, perhaps daydream it, who knows. Whether you read the book once, or a thousand times, each time it's the same, drawing you in, haunting you.

It's after the first time that you finish that maybe you begin to notice something, like something about you has changed, something is just a little different. Suddenly there is a talent or skill you didn't know you had before, suddenly there is an awareness of others like yourself who were drawn into stories only to find that when they finished they had changed in some little special way. Perhaps it's good, perhaps it's bad, what you do from here? is your choice.

The quaint bookstore with its big bay windows if you try to go back... is gone.

It was always meant to end this way. Lord Voldemort or Harry Potter, one would have to destroy the other. In the year 1998 Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, fulfilled his destiny and destroyed Lord Voldemort. The battle was fierce and the losses were great but in the end, the reign of Lord Voldemort was finally over. The battle was over and it was time to move on. Hogwarts was rebuilt, the class of 1998 spent the summer catching up on the classes that they had missed while beginning training in their future jobs. The new Minister of Magic, a half-blood wizard, put strict laws in effect to allow for the capture of Death Eaters and their supporters.

Things were quiet, things were peaceful. The Golden Age, some were beginning to call it. Free from persecution, wizards of impure blood were taking places of honor and respect . The trio finally begain to relax and it seemed as if things were finally well. Little did they know that there was darkness brewing once more. Rodolphus Lestrange, driven mad from grief, had taken on a protégé. An intelligent and ambitious former Ravenclaw Aiden Chambers.

A Call for Freedom

This was the title of the opinion piece that Aiden submitted to the Prophet. The passionate article spoke of the shift in the muggle world, that it was no longer quite so taboo to be a so -called witch. It served it purpose, raising all the appropriate eyebrows. Could it be done? Could they reveal themselves to the muggle world without mass hysteria?

Aiden was brought in as one of the Minister’s top advisors as the Ministry tentatively began to creep towards revealing themselves . Once again the wizarding world was divided, the people who supported the change and the people who thought it was dangerous.

Order members began to come forward in support of it, not realizing that while they were supporting it, former Death Eaters were sending out feelers, gathering a new and more terrifying army.

Darkness Rising [05 Jun 2009|11:59pm]

"….Voldemort's powerful now. You don't know who his supporters are, you don't know who's working for him and who isn't; you know he can control people so that they do terrible things without being able stop themselves. You're scared for yourself, and your family, and your friends. Every week, news comes of more deaths, more disappearances, more torturing … The Ministry of Magic's in disarray, they don't know what to do, they're trying to keep everything hidden from the Muggles, but meanwhile, Muggles are dying too. Terror everywhere … panic … confusion …"

Across Europe the Wizarding Community lies in fear. Voldemort and his followers are on the rise, leaving behind a reign of terror in their wake. As his numbers increase, Wizards begins to grow more uneasy, increasingly choosing to fall prey to his Empire, out of fear, unwilling to stand up and fight.

In spite of the increasing danger, a small group of vigilante Wizards have begun a rebellion, daring to do what the Ministry fears to do; fight. The Order of the Phoenix is slowly growing into a force to be reckoned with, threatening not only Voldemort, but the Ministry itself.

Change is on the brink for the students of Hogwarts. No longer will they be safe behind the confines of the castle, unaware to the real dangers of the world. They will soon be forced to make their own loyalties known; a decision that will affect not only the rest of their lives, but the entire Wizarding World.

Amongst the darkness, these students are potentially the light needed to give the Order the man power to take on Voldemort’s forces. As both sides fight to gain support, one question lies: which side do you choose?
