Log: Marvel - Penny and Cris
Who: Penny and Cris - and a surprise cousin baby
What: Old partners meeting up and things
Where: Marvel - Pick a diner any diner
When: Recently
Warnings: Nah
Penny's day was getting weird. She had been asked by her cousin to pick up Joy for an undeterminable amount of time which added to her babysitting duties, and since she was headed to Marvel anyway, she figured it would be easier than Graham - who did not look too great - coming all the way to Gotham and then going on about his business. She would get things set up for Joy at Clem's apartment, and contemplated letting Carson babysit but decided against it almost immediately because she wasn't convinced the girl was ready for that kind of commitment quite yet.
If anything the three of them would be spending lots of time together at Clementine's place and Carson would get some firsthand experience at what was just around the corner. She didn't want to scare her, that was the last thing she wanted to do, but she also wanted her to start trying to think a bit more seriously about her situation. At least to the extent that a scared 20 year old girl was able to. Penny was used to that part, but living with her day in and day out, and worrying about Jake, and worrying about Clementine, and worrying about Graham, and now worrying about looking after Joy for however long. Penny was a ball of worries and it was written all over her face because she was going to meet Cris and she didn't have to worry a lick about not looking worried.
She could show up and have a major meltdown with her baby cousin perched on her hip and Cris wouldn't mind. Luckily, they weren't anywhere near meltdown phase. But they were nearing eating her feelings stage and so when she'd told Cris all she wanted was a half dozen hotcakes, she hoped the place he'd told her to meet him would deliver. And by the looks of it from the outside as she crossed the busy New York intersection, muck boots sloshing through the slush that was coming with the great thaw, she was about to eat until she passed out. And be plenty happy about it.
On her hip Joy was wide awake and looking around, this place a far cry from the house in the mountains, she was sure of that, and she talked to her, like she was having a conversation with anyone else. Telling her they were going to get some good snacks soon, and that there were all kinds of goodies in the bag she had slung over her shoulder for her. And while it wasn't exactly the grown up partner bonding time she anticipated, she doubted Joy would tell anyone their secrets just yet.
She opened the door to the diner, and a poor excuse for a bell tried to ring, and she smiled. This was going to be just perfect and her blonde head turned to the right and then to the left before she saw Cris sitting in a booth near the back and if his voice had been music to sore ears, he sure was a sight for sore eyes and her shoulders eased from tension and she was pretty sure even the baby she was carrying relaxed. She waved, and leaned down and said something ridiculous to Joy and pointed at Cris before she walked over in that direction, when she approached the booth she looked him over and smiled, "This is the best day I've had in weeks. And I woke up feelin' like something drug out from under the porch, but I'm doing great now."
