Who: Jane Shepard & Garrus Vakarian
Where: Lobby, The Hotel
When: Now
What: Jane finally finds the hotel and meets up with someone she thought she'd never seen again.
Rating: Low for now

The last words Garrus said to her were "I love you, too." He'd been carried off on an evac jet because the charge to get to the Crucible had gone worse than expected. She'd ended up aboard the massive synthetic-life-destroying mechanism injured and already not expecting to live through it. She made her choice knowing it would kill her but in the end, any choice would've done that. The Crucible's explosion relaying across the galaxy and the heart of it crashing down toward earth. That's the last thing she remembered before there was a space of nothing that consumed who knows how much time? And then she woke up in the past at a hospital in what very well may be another timeline or as that woman told her over her journal, another fictional universe. Shepard was still trying to wrap her head around that one, but she only thought about it when she was looking for a hotel in a city of hotels.

But she found it and she knew it when she saw it. Easily forgettable and only noticed if you were actually looking for it. Now she stood in the lobby of a hotel that she had no idea how to navigate. She was hesitant to find the door to her world because it was in her past. Walking through that door, knowing what she knew, there was so much she could change, so much she could do but . . . there was so much out of her control. Even if they did build the Crucible again, and sooner too, the choice was going to be the same. Her stomach churned just thinking about it. Would she be able to listen to EDI's voice aboard the Normandy knowing that she'd chosen to sacrifice her friend because she didn't trust the Reapers to follow-through with their word as to what the others did?

Probably not.

But what she did know was that somewhere in this hotel, or maybe through a door, Garrus was there.

I love you, too.

The way they joked over his journal, it was like nothing happened, but so much had. She needed to see him though. God, she needed to see that Turian face of his. The scarring was fading, sure, but it wasn't the scarring that had her love him. It was everything else that made up Garrus Vakarian, her boyfriend. Her lover. She looked around the lobby, hoping that he would be there and she'd see him standing among the others. It wasn't like Turians were easy to confuse with anyone else. They were tall and their unique anatomy made them stick out.

Running her fingers through her blond hair, she glanced about and then came to sit in a chair near the desk. Maybe he went through a door. But which one? It would figure that she finally find the damn hotel and now she couldn't find her boyfriend.
