Hey are you busy? I haven't been up to Watchtower yet so I was wondering if I could check it out.

[Locked to Cassie Sandsmark]

I feel human again. I had a shower and food and sat on a couch for a whole hour.

[Locked to Conner Kent]

Hey kiddo, I saw you flying around but didn't get a chance to say hi. How are you?

We're sisters. We might not agree on everything, but the big things, we usually do. [Donna didn't mean sisters in the way that all the Amazons were. She and Diana were family in a profound way. And she wasn't surprised to see anyone won over by Diana's honesty and kindness. That was just her way. She put her hands over her ears and winced as they boom tubed out of there. She'd teleported in worse fashions.

Immediately Donna started to look at the things that changed from this Watchtower to the one she knew. She smiled at the sun, it seemed a little strange but so did everything, and her attention shifted back to Eddie.] This seems new. Watchtower. I doubt I'll be finding random take out boxes and forgotten shoes. [It was a work place for the JLA, but they spent a lot of time up there, at least in her world. The Titans Tower was basically an after-school hang out when they were growing up.]

Apokolips is ugly and dark and there's a sort of hopelessness to it. Like even if Darkseid was out of the picture, that was just how it was made, and it wouldn't change. [Donna didn't necessarily believe that, it was how it felt.] I've come up against Darkseid more than a few times, mostly because of the Multiverse.

I'm typically the only person up here. Sometimes Hal or Bats comes to check things out, but there really isn't any use for it beyond mastering new technologies. I'm currently learning all there is to know about force fields, for example. Think of it as a library or a lab more than a command base. [Donna had earned enough respect from Eddie that he decided to be truthful with her. It used to be just because that was what Diana would have wanted, but Donna had proven herself plenty.] It was built by Lex. He was going to use it for his own personal league. When we took this away, I think he gave up trying to recruit. I don't think he's even here anymore.

[He strolled by her as they walked out and down one of the hallways. The Watchtower itself was massive, but there were some points of interest nearby.] The people of New Genesis told me tales and I remember Darkseid, though I usually made sure to stay out of all of that. I think it's interesting how Apokolips and New Genesis exhibit the best and worst humanity has to offer. They call the people of New Genesis gods, but I think they're just a condensed form of all that's good with humanity.

They used it for meetings, and also people would take turns keeping an eye on everything up here. We used to be able to tell when something bad was going on from up here, sensors and watchful eyes everywhere, so they could delegate missions to the members on duty. Not that I'm saying it needs to be used that way, it doesn't look like we're having constant fires to put out all over the globe now. [Donna slipped fairly easily into feeling comfortable around Eddie. She trusted the opinions of the people who trusted him, and they worked together first hand. That was good enough for her.] Of course it was Lex. [She made a face.] The last thing that man needs is a league of his own.

[It was surprising to hear him talk about New Genesis from such a personal perspective. He had her full attention, and she chuckled after his last comment.] I'm not so sure they'd be happy to be compared to humanity. Recently the Apokolips gods were hiding in the bodies of humans, and I'm fairly sure they were unimpressed. [That was a whole bunch of confusing. Donna tilted her head toward him.] You're talking very casually about all of this, but I wonder if you know how unique your story is right now. You're talking about some things that most humans would never survive.

If things get the way I've heard it used to in our world, that's a good plan. For now it oddly seems mostly concentrated in Gotham. [To be fair, Eddie didn't spend a lot of time out of Gotham or caring about world events before this door. He probably slept through dozens of alien invasions safe in his Arkham cell.]

[He raised a brow at the thought of hiding in the bodies of humans.] They were probably just confused why they had a sudden, insatiable hunger for tacos the second they donned human skin. [Eddie smiled and then shook his head at her last comment. No, it wasn't something that occurred to him and frankly he was flattered that she had even noticed it.] Thank you ah- [He smiled and shook his head again.] It's funny. I think as a rogue I would have been boasting to you about all my wondrous accomplishments. But, it feels like this is the path I was supposed to take all along. Using my mind and soul to make things better. I've been humbled, whether I like to admit it or not.

[Eddie smiled because he couldn't remember the last time he said anything like that and then put in a code to open the door to the Monitor Womb. It was a fairly small room compared to the giant Promenade covered in monitors, wires and towers of computers. There was one main chair in the middle of the room that seemed incredibly close to a curve of giant screens and a few other chairs stations around different areas. Eddie turned and explained excitedly:] The technology on the Watchtower has an extremely discrete and advanced cooling system. I could stack all of these towers on top of each other and push them next to each other without ever lowering the temperature of the room. How wonderful is that? That said, quite a bit of this tech is very human and recognizable. Even though this is essential my command center, even Hal could run in here and figure out where a crisis was or how to reset an alert button. This makes it possible for me to handle advanced settings while the others can take my place for rudimentary tasks in a pinch.

That's probably because it seems like most of the action here is in Gotham. Door-wise, I mean. Of course I'm very new, so this is conjecture. If we were having problems in Metropolis and Star City too, we could broaden the scope of what it's used for. Or you could broaden it. [Donna wasn't entirely sure how comfortable she would be in Gotham full time, but it didn't seem hard to take some time away. She was going to go see the Amazons soon, and that was always a fresh breath of air.]

[Her smile widened and her eyes softened while he spoke, and she understood very well now why he was part of the Justice League and Batfamily.] That's ... extraordinary. Sincerely. I think those of us who were born to it don't realize how hard it is to choose to change, not because you have to, but because you want to. [Donna shook her head.] I tried to live a normal life for awhile, and it was difficult just to try and do that, to change the way I reacted to the world on an every-second basis. And that's probably no where near as hard as rogue to hero was. So I tip my invisible hat to you. [She playfully did just that, a tap at her forehead as if there was a hat there.]

[She listened to him explain about the computers and nodded, although computers were hardly her area of expertise.] Good to know that the slightly techno-challenged won't be completely inept. How much time have you spent up here?

[Eddie hadn't expected such an understanding response, though he chided himself for being surprised. Of course Donna was Diana's sister and there was sincerity instead of skepticism. He gave her a broader smile almost as if he shared a secret with her that he wasn't sure she'd understand.] You are incredibly dorky for an Amazon. [He told her at the tip of the hat, in obviously friendly teasing.]

[He turned and shook his head, holding his hands out in front of him.] No, no you don't want to know how much time I spent in here already. Ask my wife, it drives her nuts. Though, honestly, I don't love locking myself away for hours and hours. I'm a people person. Obviously.

[Eddie gestured for her to head out and then followed after her. He paused, as if he wasn't sure if he should ask. Except he couldn't help it. After a moment:] How long have you known Dick Grayson? Did you grow up together?

[Donna laughed.] Oh gods, I completely am. The Amazons take no credit for it. I spent too much of my formative years on the mainland, surrounded by quipping teen superheroes. [All versions of her at one point or another ended up in the modern world, so the Amazons were only a part of her story. The Titans were always piled up on each other, watching movies or acting like typical kids, just with super powers and occasionally saving the world.]

There's always one or two things in a marriage the other person eye rolls over. You could whisk her away up here too, although you've probably already done that. [Donna spoke of marriage with just the hint of a personal touch, having been there herself, years ago.] As far as I know none of us had the courage to use Watchtower as a date spot, so you're at an advantage.

[She had the sense there was more to the simple question than it seemed, but it was an easy one for her.] Well over a decade. We were maybe fifteen or so when we started the Teen Titans. I was new to man's world at that point, so the other members became like my overprotective brothers. Even Jason, at one point, although he wouldn't like to hear me say it.

I'm surprised the titans never took off here. Maybe not enough members or people like yourself too old for it anymore. [Eddie was actually pretty surprised at how young kids were when they started fighting crime. Grayson started when he was still eleven or twelve, wasn't he? For as long as Eddie could remember, Batman had some kind of small child by his side and the green man always thought that was more than a little strange.]

[Eddie smiled at the idea of bringing Stephanie up here.] I did once. I think we ended up having a fight. Oh but I did see security footage of Clark and Diana making kissy face! [Eddie loved gossip like a pre-teen girl. Lately he was trying to be better about it, but neither that Supes or Wondy was around. So it was fine.]

[He nodded thoughtfully.] This Jason is different from the one we knew. Same personality, but not the man I worked with. Is Grayson how you remembered him?

The Teen Titans we might be a little too old for, but we did make the Titans while in our twenties. I'm not sure a third team is really needed. [They had the Batfamily and the Justice League, and that was plenty of people for the fairly busy Gotham.] I'll probably keep an eye on Gateway City when I can. It's surprising to me that Bruce is so comfortable with other heroes in Gotham. He's usually very against us being around. [In her world at least.]

[Oh oh oh that was gossip. That was gossip Donna had no idea about and her shock was apparent.] What! That's scandalous. Wait, was this a him that wasn't married to Lois? [She really hoped not, that didn't sound like Diana, but this was mind boggling to her. The Titans were a little gossip-y, so she liked the intrigue. Call it a guilty pleasure.]

As far as I know, Dick's my version. We haven't gotten to trade all the right stories yet to be sure, but I know him. I'm hoping to steal him away one of these days so he can take a break. [Because Dick needed one, and she could tell that without needing to hear it from him.]

[He smiled at her shared excitement about gossip.] No, no. And, actually you missed a Lois that was just the worst. You would have hated her. This new Lois is the bee's knees in comparison.

[The mention of Grayson made Eddie pause, however.] The Bats in general aren't doing so well. And, I worry about him. Dick's been kind to me and he trusted me with so much after his run in with the cult a few months back. I want to help, but I don't know how.

[Eddie motioned towards the next large area which could be easily identified as the armory. He put in his identification and then motioned for her to go ahead and check it out. There were many rooms, most of which weren't worth walking through because they were essentially gun ranges. Eddie showed her his work bench that had a large, laser looking gun on it.] Most of this stuff probably won't ever be used. If we're lucky.

She wouldn't happen to be the one from the Syndicate, would she? Because that version was psychotic. She killed all of the Amazons so I took it a little personally. [To say the least.] That's the thing about the multiverse, it's a toss-up. I'm not sure I'd call this place a continuation of the multiverse, but it does seem to be mixing a lot of different backgrounds. [Donna knew what she was talking about when it came to the multiverse. Way too much about it, actually.]

You're not the only one worried. [Donna talked to Babs about it briefly during the Gotham situation, but Dick didn't end up killing anyone, so there was that. But she was increasingly concerned about him, especially if everyone else was a little too.] With Dick, it's about support and communication. He cares about people, and he cares about what they think. It's what made him a good leader, but he also second guesses himself a lot. I think you'd be surprised how well what you just said would go over with him. Knowing that you care about him and appreciate your relationship, those are the types of things he needs to hear sometimes. I know it's harder for the Batfamily to communicate that way.

[Donna had a different experience, which he could probably guess after meeting Diana. The Amazons were warm and supportive, so it was no surprise she ended up being the emotional center of the Titans. She curiously approached his work bench and the gun on it.] Is there any wood around here to knock on? It's good to have these things around, I've found. Do you design weapons and gadgets too?

[The old Lois had been an afterthought once she proved that she wasn't a woman worth speaking to, so he never pondered her origin much. But, then he remembered the "Lois" from Earth-3 and he gave Donna a look like a lightbulb turned on over his head.] Well holy shit. [He smiled like he had just narrowly avoided a speeding freight train.] Did we ever dodge that bullet.

[The subject of Grayson was an interesting one. Eddie had always been on shaky ground with the man until recently. Eddie didn't know what changed. It could have been just putting in time. It could have been taking care of Stephanie the best he could. But, either way, Eddie was grateful.] It's going to be harder once the kid shows up. [And Eddie bookended that conversation because he didn't want to get into it too much. The Nashton's wanted to be there for the Grayson-Gordon's but it was going to be difficult once there was a kid there.]

[Eddie smiled at her approach of the weapons.] I've made a few for fun. I've never been a death ray kind of guy, so building super weapons isn't exactly my bag. I like security stuff a lot better. Computers. [He smiled and then gestured towards the door.] Come on, I'll show you the plants.

Seriously, she could do a lot of damage. [Donna looked at him curiously when he said it was going to be harder once the kid showed up. She couldn't exactly think of why that would be, but there was clearly more to the story. But he seemed like the kind of guy that would have gone on if he wanted to. She would bookmark it herself until another time. They were still getting to know each other, so it wasn't quite big confessional time.]

A computer expert and a florist, who knew? [She teased with a smile and then followed him to see the rest of the place. It was good to be around something familiar again, even if it was from an unexpected source. But she always trusted Diana's opinion, and on Eddie Nigma, she was correct.]
