Mutants
[Locked to mutants, both born and made through the pulse]

I have been waiting and watching, and I believe it is time to speak.

My name is Erik Lehnsherr, and I am a mutant. I have the ability to manipulate and control metal. I understand there were some people hit by a "pulse" that caused them to develop new abilities. Someone caused it, and knowing humans, they will be looking for you. Perhaps they've already found you, or tried to experiment on you. I've seen this before, and they will not stop.

Brothers and sisters, we don't need a cure, and there isn't one, nor should they be. We are capable of many great things, things that ordinary people cannot fathom. And they will hate and fear you for it.

I had a team before. We found and protected mutants, and prepared for the coming war, because there is one. It is only a matter of time. Join me if you wish to be a part of real action, not hiding and hoping for the best.

Mutant kind? That sounds ominous.

Mutanity doesn't have quite the same ring as humanity, so I make do.

What's your viewpoint, and how does it differ from his?

Charles believes that if they hide and wait, eventually tolerance will be learned. That was an unfortunate decision, considering our attempt at saving humans led to them immediately trying to kill us. I believe that fear will win over tolerance, and it is only a matter of time before they come for us. So far I've been proven more correct than he, but he's stubborn.

'They' hide and wait? [...] When did an attempt at saving people become them killing you?

It was during the Cuban Missile crisis in my world. A mutant by the name of Shaw wanted to start World War III. We stopped him and the crisis from continuing, we were partially working with the CIA at that point. Afterward all the ships turned their missiles on us, despite the fact we saved them. It was only my powers that saved us.

Your ability. With metal. But how do you know it will be the same? The worlds are different. All of them.

They are never different. The pulse proved that. And if the person responsible doesn't find those people, the CIA will, or the FBI, they will always seek power and control. Most likely the only reason these "Avengers" managed to stay safe was by being extremely public. People would notice if they went missing.

The Avengers have never faced trouble of that kind from what I've seen. You believe it's 'us' vs 'them'?

Oh I've seen otherwise. Some adore them, but there are plenty of people who blame them too, for not keeping them safe enough, for causing more damage than they think necessary. There will be a day when the Avengers will seem like a necessary evil, but the glisten will be gone. And it is us vs them.

After that alien attack, I doubt anyone believes the world would be better off without them.

So if you're so sure, how have you not convinced the Professor?

That's why it would be a necessary evil. But it won't end there. Some will say they're the reason the aliens attacked in the first place, or at least one of them might be. They're exciting and new and flashy, but they are dangerous and the tide will turn.

Charles has this irritating habit of thinking if he just wished hard enough, everything would work out. He will sit there still wishing until we're all dead and gone.

Something sentimental, no doubt. And that we could do more good together than apart.

If anything, the pulse proves how dangerous this world still is for us. Whoever made it, they will seek to control and understand what they've done. It doesn't exactly lean toward thinking positively, does it? They're in danger.

If mutation is forced, it's intentional. Maybe not specifically for those people at that time, but there were experiments happening that led to it. I'm no science expert, but it makes rational sense.

Mutation has happened before. Look at Spiderman. That wasn't intentional.

Who is Him being mutated might not have been intentional, but the science that caused it to happen was.

Intentionally something. Not necessarily mutants.

Let's say it's a science experiment gone wrong. The most logical response to that is to gather the accidental test subjects and study how and why it happened. That's when it becomes a problem to be a mutant in this situation, in all situations. And once they unlock that key and can make more or perfect the science they were going for in the first place? Even well meaning science can turn ugly and fast.

But what if the science they were going for in the first place had nothing to do with mutations?
