THE REUNITED AND IT FEELS SO GOOD MEME

How to Play:
  1. Post with your character | fandom | and any preferences.
  2. Be sure to mention any scenarios you are interested or not interested in playing.
  3. Tag Others.
  4. Be awesome to each other.
  5. Have fun!

Use the RNG to help you pick or choose on your own!

PROMPTS
  1. ROMANTIC: You two are together, even though you were apart the feelings never changed. You love this person and you want to show them just how much you missed them.
  2. PLATONIC: Because sometimes missing your BFF is the absolute worst.
  3. AIRPORT: AKA the movie reunion. Go run, go leap, go hug the crap out of that person.
  4. QUIET: Sometimes reunions don't need the fanfare. Sometimes it's just enough to quietly reconnect with that person you've been missing.
  5. I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD: For when you didn't think you'd ever see that person again.
  6. AFTER A FIGHT: Yeah, you guys screwed up. Slammed doors, maybe threw a few things. But absence makes the heart grow fonder and you'd be damned if you just couldn't get them off your mind while you were apart.
  7. OBLIGATORY SMUT OPTION: Do we need to explain?
  8. WILDCARD: Not interested in any of the options or have an idea of your own? Do your own thing; you do you!

Pietro was dead. Bruce was gone. Natasha was heartbroken. It was all because of Tony, because Tony had done something in a moment of panic and desperation and made an AI system that was too good, too intelligent, and, apparently, not artificial enough. That thought plagued him, with every droid he shot down and every hit he dodged, Tony knew that it was happening because of him, and people were dying. He had finally relapsed and became the warlord that he worked so hard to change from, coming back full circle. The nightmares were going to get worse, that was almost guaranteed, as soon as they stepped back into Avengers Tower, Tony put it all away and compartmentalized. There was no point in apologizing to the team now, apologies weren't going to bring anybody back, so he did what he could and separated himself from the situation, congratulating everybody on a job well done and cutting in with a snarky remark when it was expected of him. Soon, Steve was gone with Natasha, some super secret Nick Fury not-S.H.I.E.L.D shit that Tony really couldn't bring himself to care about right then, and Tony was moving upstairs to get himself out of his suit.

Pepper had been overseas, and he hadn't been able to contact her the entire time everything was happening. He could just imagine the terror she had felt when she saw the story on the news, a city in the sky with the Avengers engaged in a battle if a lifetime, and although she hadn't told him that she had come back from Germany, although she hadn't been able to contact him and he hadn't been able to contact her, Tony knew. He knew that she would be upstairs on their private floor, a loft set aside in the tower for the long weeks they had to spend in New York City, and she would be there because that was what they did. They waited for each other when they didn't know what was happening, because despite their differences, both Tony and Pepper wanted the same thing at their very cores. Someone to come home to.

His body was aching, nasty bruises starting to form on his arms and torso, but he ignored the residual pain for now as he took the elevator to their floor and stepped out into the small hall that led directly to their door. Tony pushed it open, knowing that she wouldn't have locked it, and the first thing he saw was Pepper sitting on the couch in their living area, fiddling with her hands and waiting. Waiting for him. This is what Tony did to her, he left her waiting and worried and that thought that always came to him when he woke up in the middle of the night or got called off on a mission hit him once more in that moment; what was he doing to her? Why was she staying?

He didn't say anything until she looked up, and even then Tony found it hard for him to move from the spot he was in, feet planted to the floor and legs heavy. He blinked, a look of confusion and uncertainty on his face, because fuck, what was he supposed to say to her?

"...We might need to call our PR guy."

Waiting.

That was the hardest. Waiting, watching, waiting, wondering, waiting, worrying, waiting, waiting. Pepper hadn't ever considered herself to be a clock watcher, she'd always been too busy taking care of the company Tony had given to her to ever care about the time. As long as she got to go home at the end of the day and things got done, then there was nothing to complain about.

Until Iron Man came into their lives. Not just Tony, but Iron Man, the thing that took Tony away from her into dangerous situations and near death experiences. Granted, she was proud of him, very proud, proud of the man he'd become, that he'd taken responsibility for all his past actions and was working on creating a better world, one that was safe for everyone. Because deep down, she knew he was a good person and had a heart of gold even if the outer shell was one of snark, fast comebacks, and inappropriate jokes. Iron Man gave him the ability to do all of these things, and Pepper never complained, just waited and prayed that he'd come home safely, watching the clock, and the minutes tick by, letting the news give her the tidbits of information that let her know he was still alive.

The Battle of New York happened when she was in DC signing contracts for a new building. When Phil Coulson had arrived in the penthouse and they'd looked at the information together, Pepper offering to leave was her way of ensuring her own safety. The last thing Tony needed was to be worrying about her when there were bigger things to do. This time, she'd been in Germany, oddly enough working on some expansions for Stark International, maybe a little bit sad that she was missing the big party at the Tower, but happy that things were going well on the Avengers side of things. Pepper had spoken to him briefly the night of the party and then not again, nothing at all, while Tony and Steve and their team tried to prevent another part of the world from falling apart. CNN kept her up to date. The news was all she had. That and her fear, and it took all the strength she had to hold herself together.

When the time was right, she returned home. Tony would come when he was ready and she'd be waiting. Still waiting. Always waiting.

The room was dark, save for a couple of dim lamps, and the television playing an old black and white movie, one of the things she dearly loved. The turn of the knob at the door brought her attention away from the actors on the screen to the door, and the corners of her mouth turned up slightly, the tiny smile masking the shine of thankful tears that dotted the corners of her eyes. He looked worn out, tired, too tired, perhaps a little broken. And then Pepper realized why she waited, why she let herself live with the worry and fear. Because she loved him and he needed her to help him put the pieces back together.

Unfolding her legs out from underneath her, she stood and walked over to him, putting a hand on his cheek to ensure herself that he was indeed real. "It doesn't matter right now. Shower first. Then we can talk." Or sleep. Or whatever he wanted.

He watched her slowly move her way towards him, contained and controlled despite the fact that he could very well see the shine in her eyes as tears threatened to form large enough to finally roll down her cheeks. Pepper was a gorgeous woman. She had legs for miles, a killer body that kept Tony in the gym for two hours a day; one hour for the Avengers, and one hour just to make sure he stayed in her tier. Her smile brightened a room and her voice was like music, her wit was the only one fast enough to keep up with his own and her sharp tongue kept him in his place. That wasn't why he loved her though, Tony loved Pepper Potts for moments like this. He stood in the doorway and felt like he was on the fringes of falling apart, when the cameras were gone and the rest of the team was away Tony finally felt himself decompress and when that happened it felt like pieces of him were falling apart.

But then Pepper would stand up and look at him with that look, and touch him with that touch and he felt like maybe he could stay together for another day. More than that, he knew that if he couldn't, if he did fall apart, she would be there with her hands out to catch him and make sure that nothing was irreversibly lost. His face softened into something sorrowful and apologetic, and instead of responding immediately Tony's arms wrapped around Peppers waist, pulling her in to close the space between them and press a lingering, tender kiss to her mouth. When he parted his forehead rested against her own for only a few moments before it slipped down and took its place to rest against her shoulder.

He wanted to tell her that he was sorry, but he couldn't. He couldn't tell her that it wouldn't happen again, because it would. He hated keeping her in that constant limbo of not knowing when he would be called away, when he would get home - if he would get home. He finally replied but he stayed there, arms wrapped around her and head resting against her as if he was afraid she would disappear if he didn't hold on tight enough. "A shower works." He managed to give a little shrug despite the awkward position. "They usually say that you shouldn't be alone after a traumatic experience though." His tone turned more suggestive. "I've been traumatized. A single person shower probably wouldn't be good for my mental health."

Pepper melted into Tony, while he did the same. Her arms came around him, giving no resistance when he pulled her into him and kissed her. It was more than a welcome home kiss, it was a 'thank god you're here and I'm finally home and I'm sorry I made you wait' kiss even in it's brevity. She was very good at reading between the lines when it came to Tony. When his head landed on her shoulder, Pepper turned her face into his hair and breathed in, letting his scent fill her senses, that mixture of his aftershave, the suit, sweat, and something that was purely him. It's familiarity turned her insides to mush and she had to blink back those tears to keep them from falling. He didn't need to see her cry. Right now, Tony needed her to be strong, but she was so, so glad that he was finally home.

"I think they are exactly right." She murmurred into his ear, though inwardly she winced at his mention of the traumatic experience, even if he was trying to brush it off in a suggestive manner and implying she should shower with him. "I wouldn't dream of letting you be alone. Besides it'll make it easier for me to check you over and count the bruises."

Hard as it was, Pepper pressed a kiss to Tony's temple and disengaged herself from his arms, closing the front door to their loft. Catching his hand, she led him to the bedroom and the ensuite beyond, turning on the shower and adjusting the temperature to an appropriate setting, hot enough to soak away the aches and pains, but not hot enough to burn. Pepper wasn't wearing much outside of a pair of cotton shorts and an old button down of Tony's, so she took on the task of getting out the fresh towels, and clean clothes for them to lounge in and wear to bed later on.

Despite her puttering with the water, and towels, and clothes, every time she walked past Tony or got close to him, she would reach out and touch him, a hand on his back, a stroke down his arm, or something similar, as if to constantly reassure herself that he was not going to disappear.

"I love it when you count," he responded almost immediately, his head leaving her shoulder so he could stand properly and look at her with a raised eyebrow. "Numbers look sexy on you." His eyes closed slowly when he felt her soft lips against the side of his head, and although he knew that they would have to move Tony didn't want to. The aches didn't matter, the bruises were irrelevant, as long as he could keep her in his arms. His hold lingered for a second too long, not wanting to let her go, but he finally released her so that she could take his hand and slowly lead him through the bedroom to their bathroom. He stood in the center of it, still feeling heavy and numb, but every time she passed she reached out to him. A brush of fingers, a hand on his arm, every gesture felt like it brought his humanity back bit by bit. She knew how to handle him without making him say it, she understood him on a level that Tony didn't even understand himself sometimes, and that was why he loved Pepper. That was why he fought so damn hard out there, because not coming home would always be an option, but not one Tony would ever succumb to easily.

He watched her go through the motions, water, clothes, towels, and Tony finally moved to drag his shirt off, one made of thin fabric that made it easier for him to perform in the suit. It was light weight and skin tight while also adding an extra layer of protection, but it hadn't done much that day. Nasty blotches of blue and purple were rising to the surface on his abdomen where he had taken particularly hard hits, ones that even the suit couldn't save him from. He unfastened his pants and let them fall away, dragging his boxers down and pushing them aside as well, and when Pepper passed by for the last time to put the towels down where they could reach them Tony's hand shot out to gently grab her wrist, stopping her in the middle of her action.

He pulled slowly, dragging her back into him, and he took the towels from her hand to toss them carelessly onto the closed toilet lid. His eyes moved to search her face, taking in the features that he had long ago memorized but could still never get enough of, and he held back the urge to lean in and kiss her once more in favor if looking down to slowly start unbuttoning his shirt on her chest. His fingers moved surely and patiently, because although he and Pepper had their fair share of fast and rough flings, he didn't want this to be one of them. There was a difference between wanting her and needing her, and tonight Tony needed Pepper, something he wouldn't say aloud because he knew he didn't have to. She knew. Somehow she always knew.

He finished and let the shirt hang open, leisurely dragging it down her shoulders before giving in to his own temptations and tilting his head down to trace a series of kisses against her soft skin and up to her neck. He stayed there and let his lips wander, exploring her throat and jawline as if he had never been there before, and his hands continued to move until he pushed the shirt off of her completely and let it drop down to the bathroom floor. His arms returned to her waist to pull her close once more, this time reveling in the sensation of skin against skin, and he only spoke in a soft whisper when his mouth made its way up to her ear. "I missed you." No snark, no tease. He sounded exhausted, not tired but worn. His next confession slipped out before he could stop it.

"I'm sorry."

A tumble in the bed was not uncommon for the two of them, sometimes slow and sensual, sometimes rough and fast, whenever the need struck, whatever the mood happened to be at the time. Pepper was quick to make her own demands and never left the bed unsatisfied. Tony took care of his bed partner, that was for certain. But then there were moments like these, when it was clear her lover was hurting both physically and emotionally and Pepper knew to let him take the lead, let him decide what he wanted and what he needed. It didn't mean she wasn't responsive, she read the signs and she didn't push.

Pepper was pliable in his hands, offering no resistance when Tony pulled her over and took the towels to throw them haphazardly on the toilet. Her breath caught in throat at the time he took to unbutton her shirt and remove it and she tilted her head back to give him access to the sensitive spots she loved when he kissed. Goosebumps raised on her skin, not from the temperature in the bathroom which was always set to a comfortable seventy degrees, but from his touch, the need that radiated off him, and her own desire. Pepper needed him too. It wasn't the sex she needed either, it was the skin on skin, his warmth, his touch, his breath, and the strong heartbeat in his chest, all pointing to one thing ...

He was alive.

She nodded, acknowledging that she'd heard the words, stepping back just slightly to shimmy out of her shorts and panties and kick them to the side. "Tony, I love you." Pepper's tone was soft as she drew back into circle of his arms and putting her hands on either side of his face, encouraging him to look at her. "You have nothing to be sorry for." She understood the reasoning behind why he thought he needed to be sorry and it was up to her to tell him it wasn't necessary. To prevent him from protesting or saying anything further, she kissed him, a gentle pressure of her lips on his, pressing her body tight against him.

Tony shook his head when he felt her hands on his face, because he didn't agree. He would never agree with that, he always had something to be sorry for, whether it was his big mouth putting them both in danger or making her fear for his life every time he put the suit on to take care of a mess that he had caused in the first place. He was coming to a quick realization; Tony wasn't good at being good. He wasn't made of the same stuff as Steve was when it came to being a hero, his flaws overshadowed his redemption and everybody saw that. Everybody but her.

She kissed him before he could protest aloud and that was just as well, because Tony didn't want to think about how better Pepper deserved than what he was able to offer. All he wanted to do was keep her safe, but there was no denying the fact that she would be safe if she wasn't with him. He put her in so much more danger than she would have been if she was with some jackass in accounting, but Tony would never leave her because of that. Pepper chose to be with him and he wasn't a strong enough man to push her away, because in the end he needed her there, and needing her there fueled that fear that he would lose her. It was a vicious cycle.

"I love you," he gave a quiet reply as they parted before allowing his hands to run down her slender waist. He just wanted to feel her, right now, he wanted to remember what it was like to touch her because it grounded him. It took every ounce of effort he had to pull away from her and take her hand so he could finally guide her into their large shower. The heat hit his skin and immediately started to melt away his tension, and he guided her under the spray so he could wrap her back into his arms and pull her into his chest. Tony's mouth found Pepper's once more, his kiss less patient and a little more forceful this time as his hand returned to it's journey down her waist only to continue and wrap around her, tracing over the gentle curve of her backside with a soft squeeze.

He would usually make a comment right about them about how glad she must have been that he ignored her in the development phase, when he insisted that they needed a large five person shower even though it was just the two of them, but he was too tired. After the battle he was too weary to be snarky, he was too worn to banter.

But what the hell.

His mouth barely parted from hers as his lips brushed against her own when he spoke. "Good thing we have a big shower." He squeezed her ass to emphasize the jab, because he was tired and weary and battle worn, she couldn't get mad at him. Those were practically their rules.

Even though she didn't need to shower, she'd already showered once that day, it didn't seem to matter being under the warm spray with the man she loved. The steam and water and warmth hit her skin and heightened her senses, but it didn't shield her from Tony's touch. A smile touched her lips even though they were somewhat occupied in that kiss and she wiggled her bottom against his hand when she felt the squeeze. Pepper couldn't help it and after a moment's thought, pinched a rear cheek of his. Fair is fair.

The shower was taking away the bodily aches and pains, while their gentle exploration of one another eased the tension of the homecoming. It was a wonder how very little talking was needed, how little needed to be said. Pepper was certain Tony was very apologetic and she appreciated the gesture more than ever could be said with words. The bottom line was she made her choice a long time ago. She'd chosen him. Nothing, no danger, no super heroes, no fear or worry was ever going to change that.

"It's clearly big enough for you, me, and your ego." Was her light hearted retort, then she nipped the tip of his nose with her lips. Pulling back slightly, she reached between them and gave something else of his a squeeze. That was the beauty of men, they had more to hold on to and Tony was very well endowed in that capacity. Pepper kissed his chin this time and then turned around to grab the bottle of Tony's favorite men's shower gel and the blue fluffy sponge from the shelf. "Hold still. I have bruises to count."

She scooted around him to start on his back, squeezing some of the green gel on to the sponge. The bruises on his back were smaller, than the ones on his chest, but still ugly. Pepper hated seeing him like this, his body so battered up, but she hoped to take away some of that with her touch, circling his back with the sponge and working up a good lather. "I'm going to have to keep you confined for a few days, I think."

Despite himself, Tony couldn't help but smile when he felt her pinch his bottom in return, and the smile was probably the first genuine one he had given that day. It was little things like that, little ways that she teased him or gave him just as much trouble as he gave her that brought him back down to earth. She was what grounded him. He leaned down, his mouth searching for her lips even though she was in the middle of talking, and he muttered his reply quickly as he hovered an inch away from her so he could get it out before he stole another kiss. "My ego is actually very uncomfortable right now, I think we need a bigger shower."

Her hand wandered south and she managed to get a pleased sound out of him when her fingers wrapped around him in a tight squeeze, a short, groaned hum of approval leaving him, and Tony moved into her hand before she abruptly released him to turn and grab the body wash and sponge. He stared at her with raised eyebrows before she managed to get behind him. "Not fair." He accused her flatly. "That was not fair. That was misleading and very unfair. I'm just communicating that to you, this is me making an effort to communicate in our relationship."

He kept still though, and when he felt the sponge against his back Tony couldn't help but let his eyes close slowly, the rest of his tension melting out of him with a low and relieved sigh. He wondered if people looked at Pepper and realized just how much of a caring person she was. It took him a while to figure it out, but when he saw it he could never unsee it and it was one of the reasons he had fallen so hard for her in the first place. People wondered how Pepper Potts managed to tie down on of the most influential and scandalous playboys in America. This. This was how. She managed to get a crooked smile out of him when she spoke again, although she couldn't see it, standing behind him.

"Is that doctors orders?" He questioned her with feigned curiosity, trying to look over his shoulder to see her. "I probably have press conferences to go to after what happened. I mean, I can tell them that I'm busy staying home playing nurse but I don't know in that's an approved excuse. I can try it."

"Your communication skills have improved greatly, my love, but so has my ability to tease you mercilessly. You could always beg, take your ego down a notch so we can keep the current shower." Pepper's tone was very matter of fact, as she reached his lower back and moved down to his lovely rear. There were some very wonderful things that Iron Man had done to Tony, how perfectly sculpted and toned his body had become, not that he'd ever been overweight or flabby, but the muscles beneath his skin were rock hard and perfect and she rarely had the willpower not to put her hands all over him when the opportunity arose.

The backs of his legs were speckled with bruises, lighter in color and maybe less painful which made her feel a bit better. Pepper dragged the sponge back up the length of his body and came around the front to look at him. She wondered briefly how much Tony was holding back letting her pamper him like this. They were both incredibly independent people who understood the old saying 'if you want something done, it's better to do it yourself' and sometimes had a hard time delegating, Pepper especially. But she liked doing this for him. He did the hard work as a Super Hero. She could take care of things when he got home.

"Press conferences can wait. That's my specialty and I say when it happens. I know we can't wait more than a couple of days, but those reporters don't see what I see." She gently touched one of the dark purple splotches on his chest with the sponge, the worst of the injuries he'd sustained that she could see. Pepper glided the sponge across in a zigzagging motion down to his stomach, trying to be so careful. "Tomorrow you're going to hurt. You know this and you need time to rest and recuperate. If anything comes up in the next 48 hours, I'll take care it. I promise. Then you can talk to the press."

The front of both Tony's legs were similar to the back and then she let the water rinse the soap from his body. Pepper leaned in and pressed a series of gentle kisses across one of the bruises on his chest and the sponge landed with a plop on the shower floor and her soapy hand brushed across the hard length of him. "Besides you're going to be busy ... begging."

"I really don't think that downsizing my ego is a realistic option, we should just get a bigger shower. And you trying to change me hurts. I'm hurt." His eyes shut slowly when her hands moved lower to his backside, and Tony couldn't help the small smirk that quirked in the corner of his mouth when he noticed her lingering there a little longer than necessary. Alright, he could help it, but he didn't want to.

She moved to his legs and although they were sore the pressure she put on them eased his pain slightly, his hand moving to press against the shower wall in an effort to keep his balance. He both loved and hated moments like this, because when Pepper cared for him his world was calmer and easier to get a grasp on, but the price of that was having her see just how damage he had to go through to protect the people that he put in danger in the first place. She never complained, but she didn't have to. Tony knew what he was putting her through, and there was never a short supply of guilt for that.

Pepper moved to his front once more and the soft sponge brushed against something that shot a sharp pain through him from his chest, his eyes closing tightly as his body tensed and fingers curled against the wet tile. That was a rib, and Tony's PH.D's weren't medical but he would swear that it felt like it was at least cracked. Which was fine, cracks were better than breaks, he'd be able to handle that and it would heal itself within a couple of weeks. Hopefully. He relaxed when she moved down to his stomach, his brain finally processing the words that she was saying, and at first he could only manage to nod as the pain started to fade back into a dull roar. "Alright, but when they complain I'm going to tell them that it was your idea. Do you think I can get away with getting a doctors note published? Bed rest and sexual healing? Come on, that would be great."

He moved further under the spray when she was finished and he watched her closely as her soft lips worked their way against his chest, his hand moving off of the wall to tangle into the fiery hair on the back of her head, and his grip tightened reflexively when he felt her fingers feather their way against him again before he forced it to loosen. His eyes were heavy as he watched her, staring in fascination as she moved, and her comment bought another smile to his face, more genuine this time. "We can put that on the doctors note," Tony suggested in a voice that seemed to drop half an octave. He's hand untwisted itself from her hair so he could run it down the delicate slope of her back, and his other showed no hesitation when it slipped down between them to find it's goal between her thighs. His touch was light, skilled enough to know exactly where to touch her but careful enough to make sure it was a tease rather than a sense of satisfaction.

"So, no hard work, no talking to the press, just rest and forget about everything, that's your suggestion? You're not going to try to micromanage me, are you Miss Potts?"

At some point, Pepper knew they were going to have to talk about what happened and make a game plan as to what needed to be said to the press and what could be left out. It was weight in the back of her mind as much as she was sure it was in Tony's as well, however the welcome distraction of just losing themselves in each was more than necessary. Pepper had always been a business before pleasure hardcore business woman, except when it came to Tony and his mental health. She would do whatever it took to ground him and put him back in the moment, and often it meant rest and intimacy, two things she was very happy to provide. Everything else could come later.

Much later.

With a soft groan, her head fell forward to rest against his shoulder while her hips instinctively ground down against his fingers looking for more friction. The wetness he was sure to notice was not just from the water spilling around them, but from her own's body's response to his touch and the way he had tugged on her hair a few seconds earlier when she'd kissed his bruises. Pepper's own hand finally wrapped around Tony's shaft, stroking rhythmically, alternating between firm and featherlight pressure, teasing. Her other hand had found spot to rest on Tony's hip, finger tips digging into the rock hard gluteal muscle of his rear to keep herself steady and balanced. Because she was suddenly feeling a little wobbly.

"I'll fax a copy of the Doctor's note to Mr. J. Jonah Jameson myself, that you are otherwise occupied with things of a carnal nature while resting in your bed." She said a little breathlessly, her voice muffled somewhat by the fact that she still had her forehead resting on Tony's shoulder, watching intently the mutual movement of their hands as they offered each other simple pleasure. Suddenly her hips shifted slightly and she gasped. "... yes, right there, that's the spot ... God, if you make me start begging ... I'll add a clause in to say that the begging is mutual if only you'll keep doing that."

Pepper trailed off for a moment, trying to catch her breath and then continued after a moment. "No work, no press ... maybe no micromanagement, I make no promises ... it's like your ego, some things can't be changed." Finally, she looked up at him. There was something else in her blue eyes besides desire, it was love and admiration for the man there in that shower with her. And she would never give him up. "Bed or against the wall? Because you're driving me crazy!"
