WHO: Dietre and Hugh.
WHEN: A little time fuzzy? The week of the 19th.
WHERE: Hugh's Lakeside mansion.
SUMMARY: Dietre has been released and brings Sieglinde over for a doggy play date.
WARNINGS: None for now aside from Dietre being depressing, lol.
Dietre stood at the end of the driveway, staring up at the house he had been dropped off at, Sieglinde by his side. He could not seem to make himself go forward, hit by a wave of anxiety. It had been quite a while since he had been social in any capacity. He felt as though he had regressed to how he had been when he first came to Repose. Worse than that, actually, for back then he hadn’t suffered the failures and losses that plagued him now. Knowing what it was to care about someone only to lose them made him all the more apprehensive of making new connections. What was the point when they all ended the same way? With the same hurt? And then there was the lake. He could not help but turn and look in it's direction. Somewhere in those depths was Liam’s body, unrecognizable by now, restless bones drifting apart and coming together again on the current. How could his soul ever be at peace? Thinking about it made Dietre feel guilty. And that, mixed with the pang of fear upon seeing the house, made a part of him think of how much easier it would be to walk out there and join him. Neither of them would be lonely then. As if reading his thoughts, Sieglinde whined to get his attention, distracting him from the siren call of the lake. She had caught the scent of another dog and was impatient to get investigating. Dietre reached down to settle her with a soft pat between the ears. She had run wild with joy at recovering her master upon his release, and quite a few tears had been shed at their reunion on Dietre’s end. It was for her sake that he had come here, and so, with a shaky breath, he gathered up what remained of his courage and forced his feet to move. One step at a time. The short walk took longer than it should have, and if Sieglinde hadn’t pulled so at her leash Dietre would have been even slower. He hesitated before ringing the doorbell, almost hoping that Hugh would know he was there and open the door so he didn’t have to announce himself in any way. But that was ridiculous, so he bit his lip and pressed the button, getting it over with. |
