Who: Penelope and Adelaide
Where: Medical Center
What: First meeting. Penelope makes a delivery to Adelaide's room.
When: About 3 months ago, after Charles' birth
Penelope was still trying to settle in at the Medical Center. Although she had typically been a rather outgoing and sociable person, due to the events in San Antonio, she had pulled back a little, and instead kept her head down. She was haunted by Lily's bloodied face in her dreams. The way the woman's head bounced when Penelope shot it, the torn flesh of the zombie bite, and the smell of the blood mixing with the exhaust fumes in the hot air. She shown up to the medical center covered in dirt and blood, tired and feverish. Penelope couldn't get a grip. A small piece of her was in denial. It felt like a never-ending nightmare.
Had it not been for the news of her heart condition, Penelope would have already taken off. Then again, it was probably better for her to stay for the time being. Since she had no real skills, and the doctor that diagnosed her didn't want her to be put on the scavenger crew, Penelope ended up in resources. She already disliked the guy in charge. But at least she was doing something relatively productive. Still, she hated how he seemed to be a bit stingy on the resources, holding out on the good stuff for those who paid.
One of these times felt uncomfortable to Penelope. She was called in to deliver flowers and a box of good chocolates. A whole box. The man who had requested the delivery also gave them an obviously expensive tennis bracelet to be given to the patient. Penelope raised an eyebrow at her boss. "You want me to deliver what?"
But even though she was already making snarky comments about the whole absurd situation, Penelope did as she was told. She gathered the items, wrapped beautifully, and headed to the room she was directed to. They were to go to an Adelaide.
When she reached the room, Penelope made the mistake of not knocking first. Instead, she balanced the items in one hand and opened the door. What she found was a woman in bed, clearly distraught. For a moment, Penelope didn't know what to do. She froze for a minute, before turning back around to head out the hall, only to then decide that was stupid, and return to the room.
"Uh, hey," she said, trying to get the woman's attention. "I've got a delivery for Adelaide. That you?"
