A long day? Damn could Penelope recognize that. Childbirth was already quite an ordeal to go through. But to factor in the end of the world? That's a whole other ball of stress to carry. Especially when Adelaide was now responsible for another person's life. "And the internet, fresh fruit, movies at the theater, and takin' a hot chick out to a fun nightclub near his university," Penelope added to the list, definitely willing to toast to that.
At that reassurance, Penelope actually eats the chocolate she had been holding. OK, so maybe it wasn't that bad of a thing to do. At this point, she figured, it'd be rude to not eat it. Right?
"I went through there," said Penelope. "When I was moving south."
But it was the mention of Boston that made Penelope light up. As much as she hated that place, it had been home to her. And now at the end of the world with everyone she had known and loved gone, a small piece of her did miss it. "I'm not from Texas," she explained. "Actually, I'm from Boston. Small world, huh?"
