Who: Rayanne and Rodeo
Where: The Dog Park
What: Rodeo picks his computer guru's brain.
When: May 14, evening
Rodeo is restless tonight. Tomorrow morning he and a small group of his most trusted Dogs will go out to the flea market on 290, seeking his mysterious pen pal and the knowledge she might possess. Whenever he arranges a meeting with someone who has traveled, he gets this same anxious feeling in his gut, twisting and churning and burning him up. What if this will be the one? What if this time when he holds up the photo of his baby sister he sees recognition in their eyes? What if someone can finally tell him where she's been all this time?
And what if they know more than just her whereabouts? What if they tell him the worst has happened?
At least then he'd have an answer. At least he'd stop spending so many restless nights lying in his trailer, the ache biting and hissing like a pit of vipers in his chest, pricking at his eyes until tears fall as he wonders what's become of his baby girl. At least he'd stop chasing down these leads, storming head-first into possible traps all for the hope that somebody might know where his sister is. At least he'd know it's alright to stop fighting so hard. If she ain't in this world anymore, he wouldn't mind meeting her in the next so much.
His head just won't stop running over the possibilities, and the hope both thrills and terrifies him. He knows how this goes, after all. He hopes and dreams and gets himself all worked up thinking he might finally have an answer, and then when he takes that picture out he gets nothing but a blank stare. The let-down is always hard, crushing. Sometimes it lands him in the bottle, sometimes it lands him in a brawl, sometimes it lands him between a girl's legs-- but no matter what, the pain has no cure. This time he's trying to give himself a failsafe, something else to hope for when this meet ends up being another bust. That's what leads him across the camp to Rayanne and Gavin's tent, seeking out his computer expert. Maybe she can figure out a way for him to send out a message his sister might receive. Maybe there's a chance he'll be able to reach her, wherever she is.
When Rodeo reaches the opening to Rayanne's tent, he stops and tosses his cigarette into the sandy dirt. He breathes out a puff of smoke and then lifts his hand, tapping on the canvas of the tent with his knuckle. "Knock knock," he says. "You home, sugar?"
