This whole thing was weird. Not weird enough to just pack it in and go home, but she didn't quite feel right occupying the same space as the people who actually lived her. She had not been made to feel unwelcome, quite the opposite, but it was still her first day and she didn't know anyone but her brother, so it was easy to feel as though she didn't belong. Yet. She had to keep reminding herself that she could belong if she let herself.
It helped that she knew her other brother was coming. She hadn't seen him since the park and that had been a disaster and she wanted to actually talk to him and tell him about her so he knew, too. Nate knew and that was nice but he didn't get it because he was attracted to the gender their upbringing told them he was supposed to be and that didn't really help her much to know what to do about liking the 'wrong' one.
Except she didn't know how to bring it up because it had been inside her for so long, locked up tight, that the words just... didn't exist. She could try writing it. Scripting it out. So she'd retreated to a corner of the sitting room with her notebook and curled into a chair. Hunched over the book, she wrote furiously, ultimately crossing everything out as she grew more afraid that she just wouldn't be able to do it.
