After a long day at work, Frank returned home fairly tired. He had a lot on his mind, and it wasn't just about the recent release of the supposedly reformed Death Eaters. While the Longbottom residence was generally a pleasant one, and never lacking in love, Frank knew his wife wasn't as happy as she could be. It had been bothering him a great deal, and even moreso lately. More than anything he wanted his family to be happy, and he'd do whatever it took to ensure that.
He'd gotten home in time for dinner, where he was a little quiet but otherwise pleasant. Afterwards he helped clean up the dishes and then took some time to play with Neville. He always wanted to be sure that his son knew he was number one in Frank's heart. Not to mention, he just missed Neville terribly. He felt like he never had enough time with him, or Alice. That was part of being an Auror, but that didn't mean he had to like it. He volunteered to tuck their son in, to give Alice a little more time to relax before bed time if she wanted a bath or anything else she might've wanted to do.
Even after Neville fell asleep, Frank did not leave his son's side right away. He sat next to the bed, just watching the young boy for a long time. It just sort of hit him all at once how much he missed his son, and how grown up Neville was getting to be. They'd be putting him on the train to Hogwarts in just a few short years, and then they'd see even less of him. Frank felt a little piece of his heart break at the thought.
When he walked into the room he shared with Alice, Frank was certain the sadness he felt was present on his face. It was hard for him to hide his emotions, as they were almost always written clearly in his expression. He started loosening his tie and untucking his shirt, going through the motions of getting ready for bed. He wanted to talk to Alice about this, and other things too, but he was going to guage her tiredness and mood before bringing anything up.
