Charles wasted no time in hurrying over to the TARDIS once he had accepted the Doctor's invitation. Despite all of the recent temporal disturbances in his life, Charles couldn't help but be fascinated by the idea of such a machine--and that wasn't even including its operator, who seemed a good sort all on his own. It gave Charles something to think about that was a bit better than all of the things he'd been dwelling on, and far more importantly it offered a potential avenue for a return home. Even if Charles now knew that somehow he persisted in his own universe, thanks to Sean, he still wanted to return personally (with his recent knowledge, as painful as it was) to accomplish what they had meant to the morning of their disappearance.
There were all of those sensible, practical reasons, and then there was that Charles was a child of his age. He'd learned that ideas of aliens and star travel were a bit silly as he grew up, but they'd stayed with him all the same, and in a world apparently permeable to such things he wanted to know more with his voracious intellectual appetite. It was a bit like it was when he had been alone, before Raven. Sometimes he had wondered if he came from a different world entirely, and that wonder had stayed in him for a very long time, far past when it would have stopped for normal children. He knew better now, of course, but the idea of a being so far beyond humanity still interested him. (He'd once hoped he'd be taken by people who truly understood him, and it had never happened as his youthful fantasies suggested, and yet--)
He knocked on the police box door briskly three times, and then stood back--he surely couldn't be blamed for a bit of hesitant superstition. Or he hoped he couldn't, anyway.
