WHO: Laura Kinney and Open
WHAT: Laura lands on a street in Red Oak, is disconcerted.
WHERE: Red Oak.
WHEN: January 8th, 2011
STATUS: In progress
The first thing Laura did was stop.
Specifically, she stopped her motorcycle in the middle of what looked to her like a main street, causing a car behind her to blare its horn and swerve around her. Laura ignored it, dragging her bike to the side of the road and standing there tightly gripping its handlebars.
This is not New York state. It's not even close. Laura could tell by the way the air smelled and the temperature difference, and when she concentrated she could even get an idea of the barometric pressure. All of that was different. She hadn't been anywhere near a town before she was suddenly inside this one.
Most people would have been moved to panic, but Laura was too used to things like this. Panic and confusion were things that would waste her time and slow her down. She had already assembled a list of priorities in her mind, and the first one was going to be finding out where she had ended up. She walked her bike to a parking space in a small lot off the side of the road and engaged the kickstand, pocketing the keys. In the storage compartment was everyone she had brought for leaving. Most of it was clothes. But there were other, more important things as well, like a neatly packed handgun and money. She would avoid losing the bike if at all possible. Even without anything in it, it was still transportation and speed she couldn't achieve on her own.
For that reason Laura didn't go far from her bike. Only as far as the sidewalk, a vantage point she could still keep an eye on it from, where she waited until someone walked down who looked as if they might have answers for her. Laura shot her arm out and grabbed them by the elbow (or at least tried to) and demanded: "Where am I?"
