Seizing this particular individual was based on the fact that in Laura's experience, people dressed like this man were either the mentally ill homeless or beings of cosmic power and wisdom.
His answer made her think that he was more the former than the latter. On the other hand, he was correct. She was right here and her question had not been very specific.
"You are here," she said, impassively, letting go of this stranger's arm after she determined that if he did try to leave it would be easy to catch him again. "I do not know where that is. I did not lose myself. I was in the state of New York on a highway. Now we are here."
Somewhere in the back of Laura's mind she thought of the maps in malls and other sprawling complexes, with their small red arrows indicating the location of the person reading the map. It wasn't a useful thought.
"I want to know what town this is and how I got here," she explained, making her question more specific and tacking another one on for good measure. The why of being here might be more important than the where. It wouldn't be the first time Laura had been kidnapped like this. She didn't check the sky for dragons. Or the street for Julian. But she did think about doing it.
