Perhaps I am too new to this organization to understand proper procedure, but I do know that an indiscriminate search of private property is an invasion of privacy. It is true, there are players who have been caught with illegal substances, and I have made it clear to my players that any further use will not be tolerated. In any other organization, this would not be acceptable or appropriate. Why should it be allowed here?

[Kestrels]

If they insist on searching your lockers, I will have everyone put their bags in my office until further notice. I will not have the BIL invading your privacy in this manner.

They are targeting us specifically with this and our players are well aware of it. I am leaving it up to them today. I will not allow them to persecute our players without probably cause. Simply because certain players were caught before does not mean that every player should be subjected to this invasion of privacy.

I'd argue that the more you protest something, the more it looks like we have something to hide. Which we don't.

I bought this team to get us back on track. The scare tactics being used by the Ministry will cause a lack of confidence in players. If they think they're being targeted they will not want to play, let alone play well. We are being set up for failure as it is.

Let them perform drug tests. It is typical protocol and a significant improvement over raiding lockers to search for something that may or may not be there.

Every single player is being targeted in this league. No one should lose confidence over searches when everyone is under the same suspicion. I'd have a real problem with it if it was only the Kestrels, but it isn't.

Look, you're the owner. Do whatever you want and say whatever you want, but you're not the one on the pitch and with the players. I know my players have nothing to hide and I know that the refusal to adhere to this policy will in the long run cause more problems. If there's nothing to hide, then don't hide. It's as simple as that.

While the policy extends to the entire league, it is clear that it began because of us. If they expect to find anything, they expect to find it here. I am leaving it up to the players. If they choose to comply, they will. If not, that is their prerogative. Their privacy and comfort is my top concern. I will handle any backlash the BIL sends our way.

In my experience, compliance with people who are only trying to exert their power will not yield results. They will search us until they find something, and it may not be something that our players added themselves. If they want to find it, it will be there.

Of course it was instituted because of the Kestrels. Anyone who thinks otherwise would have to be an idiot. But for that very reason, it's a bad idea not to comply. Other teams can do what they want, sure, but we should be the ones standing up and showing that we have nothing to hide anymore. Not that we had things to hide before, but that was just stupidity.

If they want to find it they will, yes, but they won't find anything here. I won't let that happen again.

By sacrificing our players' right to privacy?

Even if our players are clean, they will find it if they want to. It has nothing to do with us and everything to do with making an example out of us.

Or they'll find it somewhere else and learn that it wasn't just some of our players.

Look, you're new to this, I get it. You want to turn the team around. I do too. That's why I'm still here. They already made an example out of us by catching whoever the first time. Now we prove it was a one off and we keep winning.

I may be new to this team, but I am not new to the politics of big organizations. There are ways to prevent this sort of thing from happening, but invading our locker room is not the most effective method. They are doing it to scare people and exert their dominance. It is an ineffective method and will only serve to rattle people. They know they will not find anything in the lockers after announcing the search. It's a power play.

Would you have preferred they not announce it? I wouldn't have liked that at all. Of course it's a power play. One that won't work, but the more protest we, the teams and players, put out, the more more power they think they'll need to exert.

I would prefer that they use a more traditional and less invasive method.

If this works without any resistance on our part, they will think they can exert whatever control they wish. There is a balance, and they have to know that nobody approves or appreciates it. If we comply without any push back we are playing directly into their hands.
