Perhaps I am too new to this organization to understand proper procedure, but I do know that an indiscriminate search of private property is an invasion of privacy. It is true, there are players who have been caught with illegal substances, and I have made it clear to my players that any further use will not be tolerated. In any other organization, this would not be acceptable or appropriate. Why should it be allowed here?

If they insist on searching your lockers, I will have everyone put their bags in my office until further notice. I will not have the BIL invading your privacy in this manner.

Protocol would include periodic drug tests for those suspected of using, based on a variety of factors. I have never once heard of an all-encompassing search. Players have a right to privacy, even in the wake of a scandal on the scale of what we have recently seen. This does not address my concerns. In fact, I find your intentions dubious at best.

In addition, with the announcement that lockers will be searched, your methods will prove entirely ineffective. These are scare tactics at best and will not work.

	They are targeting us specifically with this and our players are well aware of it. I am leaving it up to them today. I will not allow them to persecute our players without probably cause. I realize that I was not here until recently, but I also believe this organization has suffered enough. The searches are unnecessary, and I will stand behind you however you choose to handle the situation. Players who wish to sit out for games in protest will not be penalized, and if you still worry that they will search your lockers, we will find somewhere else for you to store your belongings.

I appreciate your sympathy in this matter. Please understand while I have absolutely nothing to hide I have worked too hard over the last decade to be treated like a criminal. My team mates as well as anyone else flying in the league have dedicated their lives to playing a fair game. They have given back to their fans and to their communities and to the ministry. We deserve better than this.
