I'm so proud. I caught that one all by myself.

Brian is in full self-destruct mode tonight. Poor guy. I'm inclined to cut him some slack and blame his crummy upbringing and as-yet undeveloped relationship skills. He'll learn ... And Justin, meanwhile, will go off and figure some things out for himself. I don't blame him, either, and I agree that he needs a break and some distance right now. But I do take comfort in knowing how things will unfold and therefore knowing that this isn't forever.

(I read the endings of books, too, before I allow myself to get too engaged with them. I'm really not good at sad endings, although I'm willing to accept angst partway through the story if I know it'll all be ok eventually. It's a luxury fiction affords us that real life doesn't.)

1. justin does know brian loves him.

2. justin, understandably is in too bad of a place right now to deal with his own shit and brian's.

3. that doesn't mean justin was in the right...but he is a kid, fucking up majorly is how kids learn.

4. it's easier for justin to walk away if he convinces himself that brian doesn't love him.

5. brian knows it will be easier for justin to leave if he gives him several swift kicks in the ass.

6. but even so, brian can't bring himself to actually not love justin. that's why it comes through so many times in this episode. sooo many.

7. thus brian has to be as much an ass as he possibly can to try and cover it up.
