Emmett stood up, his blue plate special only half-eaten. “Well, I have to go get ready for the Mayan Apocalypse party I’m giving tonight…

“What the fuck,” Debbie said, picking up his plate, “is a Mayan Apocalypse party?”

Ted popped a fry into his mouth. “It’s the end of the world as we know it…”

“What is… hit songs of the 80s?” Brian said, holding his empty coffee cup up to Debbie, who ignored it.

Emmett sighed. “It’s a party to celebrate the end of the world, which the Mayans predicted would happen on the Winter Solstice in 2012. Tomorrow.”

“I wish,” Brian sighed dramatically, “they’d told me that before I paid cash for Justin’s and my new Prada suits.”

“Don’t you have enough designer clothes?” Debbie asked, finally relenting and filling his cup.

“Sure,” Brian said. “But I figured we should go ahead and get new suits for our wedding.” He blew across the surface of the coffee, and took a sip.

“Fuck,” Debbie said, sitting down hard. “It really is the end of the world as we know it!”

“I don’t know, Debbie,” Emmett said before he turned to go. “Somehow, I always knew this would happen. Again.”
