From the poolhouse awning, they watched the smoke tendrils spiraling through the misty rain.
They stood wrapped, physically in each other's arms, but mentally in memories that were now soggy smoldering embers.
A weary fireman sought them out. "We found where lightning hit the roof. It's safe enough now, though. I can escort you in, let you salvage what you can."
Justin immediately shrugged from the comforting embrace. "Brian, I need to see what survived."
The need to protect waged its battle with trust over Brian's face. "You're right." Brian sighed, turning. "Can you take us to the studio first?" |
