Justin opened the door, his hair messy, wearing nothing but sweatpants. It was after midnight, he’d been asleep and wasn’t expecting anyone. The wind whistled. A few leaves blew over the threshold. Justin squinted blearily.

“Brian?”

Brian leaned heavily on the doorframe. He looked disheveled. If the smell hadn’t confirmed it, his smile, that spooky, loopy one, would have been enough for Justin. He was drunk.

“You drove from Pittsburgh to New York and somehow managed to remain drunk?” Justin was close to screaming at the thought.

“I flew.”

“Why?”

“You’re here.”

Justin laughed and pulled Brian inside. “Good reason.”
