ART QUESTIONS. Need help with a QAF story I’m working on. [Mar. 10th, 2010|06:50 pm]

I’m working on a QAF short story that’s driving me crazy. It started out as a fully-formed idea in my head and then took on a life of its own as I was writing it.

I’m seeking specific information about Art. I’ve tried looking up this info, but there’s too much of it and not specific enough. If you’re an artist or know an artist or know anything about Art or writing about Art, I need your help.

·        What’s the name of the bag that Justin always carried around with him?
·        What does that bag contain?
·        In my story, Justin is going back to his roots and drawing male nudes in black and white (life form?) and it’s not of Brian. What surfaces and utensils would he use as an advanced artist and why?
·        I can see Justin exploring photography out of curiosity and for growth, but I can’t see him creating his saleable art this way because he is so tactile. His images come from within and he MUST use his hands to recreate those images. If he uses a graphics program like he did in the series, what is that graphics program called?
·        I love the raw, stark softness of nude studies. When/why does an artist use pencil or ink or charcoal and what determines their choice of surface to work on? Why is it called “pen and ink” when pens contain ink?
·        The thing I see and hear the most in my mind is the soft scratchy whisper of paintbrush against parchment, the paint absorbing into the parchment, ala “The English Patient.” How would an artist capture that today?

All input is appreciated!

(BTW, does anyone know who the artist(s) was/were who produced Justin's art for QAF? I've always wondered about that.)
