This is what Brian wants Justin to be, a man, the best homosexual he can be, someone who has some balls. So much of the journey of Brian and Justin is the way the become equals over the time of the series. Justin goes from an inexperienced, sheltered teenager to a man who has been through so much, learned to fight for what he wants, defines his own happiness. And Brian pushes him on the journey. He encourages Justin to make decision for himself instead of others, he tells Justin to stand up for himself, to follow his own dreams.
Brian does not see Justin as a child. He most certainly does not think of him the same way he thinks of Gus. Yes, he met Justin the night Gus was born so they are connected in his mind. There are references to this in S1 and early S2. Although I think when he refers to Justin as Sonnyboy in 203 it is simply one of the few affectionate terms he knows, a way to express his pride in Justin in a nonsexual way not a way to show he thinks of Justin paternally. If there are times in later seasons Brian seems to parallel Gus and Justin, please remind me of them.
The point-for the love of Brian and Justin please do not write fic, especially future fic, where Brian thinks of Justin and Gus in similar terms or compares his feelings for them. Brian does not give into Justin's pleading or indulge him or look on in amusement at his childlike behavior. He does need view Justin as someone he must protect because he cannot take care of himself. Brian is Justin's lover and partner not his parent. |
