Justin: Made of win? [Feb. 26th, 2008|04:10 pm]

I have to take Kyrie to the vet, so this will be fast. I was reading the latest in [info]vamphile's drabble series, the one where Brian slowly and inexorably comes to the realization that he's fucked? That one.

And it struck me: How is it that we're given a character who is rejected by his first love, slapped and derided by his father, thrown out of his parents' home for being gay, bullied and harassed at school, nearly killed by a gay bashing at his prom, apparently abandoned by his older lover after that bashing, nearly loses his ability to draw which is the most important thing in the world to him, is in love and a relationship with a man who is at best a little hard to live with and at worst cruel, is betrayed by the man he leaves the other man for, gets thrown out of art school for his political activities, has a friend get bashed which triggers his PTSD from his own bashing and he almost kills someone, then gets thrown out by his lover for nothing more than overhearing a phone message and thereby learning his lover has cancer, has all his dreams crushed overnight when the movie being made of his comic book is canceled, whose lover (yes, him again) gets a STD and then they break up, and finally almost gets blown to pieces by a bomb in a hate crime ..... and then in this fandom, we see this character as being totally and utterly made of win?

This is what I believe: The answer is, duh, he's JUSTIN. The fact that he stands up after every one of those setbacks is why he's made of win.

What do you think? Is Justin made of win? And if so, what is it that makes him that way?

*Season One burning questions* [Feb. 26th, 2008|06:15 pm]

I watched 122 today for a drabble I'm working on for [info]brianslave68 and a couple of questions came to mind. This seemed to be the place to ask them.

The first ones really have nothing to do with things that happened, but on the show itself. It's for people who watched on Showtime while the show was airing.

Did the viewers know that something was going to happen to Justin in this episode? Were there any leaks, hints, etc? And, after it did happen, did people assume anything? For example, that Justin died? That he was injured badly? I've always been interested in what viewer thought when it was all happening in real time, not *years* later like I came into it.

Then...

My next question is just for your opinion. I know that Brian tells Justin that he wanted to recapture his youth when he shows up at the prom, but...why do *YOU* think Brian was there?

Thanks for sharing!
