Mood Killers
So sometimes I read great fan fiction, other times not so great fan fiction. I'm drawn to the story line or sometimes the hotness of it. I like a certain amount of fluff and schmoop and I'm not afraid to admit... even if it is ridiculously romantic - to quote Brian.
I'm willing to overlook a certain amount of typos, homonyms and even the awful "baby" on occasion ('cause, I just really love Rizabeau's That Happy Feeling).
But what really twists my tail is when I like a story and there is that one mood killer phrase that just stops me in my read (usually when Brian and Justin are in a deliciously compromising position). Once, I'll let it slide, twice I get annoyed, three or more times I feel like throwing my laptop across the room. Why, oh why must I be jolted out of my happy place, coldly wrenched out of the wonderful world that is Brian and Justin by a turn of phrase that is just so out of place, so out of character, so... so...? *shakes head*
And I was having such a good time reading the story...
What breaks the mood for you?
And to that end, is there fic that has managed to overcome what would be totally out of norm/character such that the unbelievable is believable?
