NEW CHALLENGE?
Ok so I just had this crazy idea at 2am after re-reading some old challenge fics.

I know there have been a lot of dropouts from the various challenges held here. I know that some people simply ran out of time before deadline but had made a good start on their fics. I also know some people just had to give up because the fic wasn't working.

What I want to know is, how do you guys feel about a new challenge to finish all the fics that didn't get finished in time for past challenges. Are there some still out there sitting on shelves?

What do you think? Anyone interested in a second chance challenge?

I would be interested. I dropped out of both the Icon Challenge With a Twist and the In Cars Challenge. And I really kind of hated how my Justin Challenge fic turned out. If you decide to give this a go, I'd like to revisit at least one of those.

Yeah, I think you'd be allowed to write a new fic for a certain challenge even if you did complete the challenge in the first place.

I like the idea. Maybe a Didn't Get It Done In Time challenge for those who wanted to participate but for some reason couldn't.

I say this because I have three fics on my laptop that I'm working on but lack the discipline to work on them consistently and if I committed myself to a deadline I might should be able to get at least one of them done.

Yes. Or, it can be for people who want to write a new fic for a challenge they already DID complete, just so that there's more room for entrants. I was also thinking of a secondary theme of "Second Chance" for the same reason.

I haven't started anything that I haven't finished. Well, not for a challenge anyway. I do have one fic I started with [info]catcayman that was a sequel to one we'd done...but that's not what we're talking about!

I'd personally *love* to see the other stories people might come up with...I love any challenge for any reason!

I figure you can write for any of the old challenge themes, and I could have a secondary theme of "Second Chance" also.

it's a kinda cool idea...except then i can't play *pouts* i've finished all the challenges i've signed up for.

in that case i'm all YAY, :D A Second Chance challenge sounds lovely. I'm in serious need of a challenge.

And here I was all enjoying my retirement from the community. Sigh. My bright ideas :\

retirement? i thought you were just on a sabbatical. If you don't feel like doing it anymore, i'd be willing to bet you could find someone willing to either co-maintain or take it over completely. cause, imo, the challenges are a seriously positive thing for the fandom and should most definitely not be retired.

Oh, I guess sabbatical's a better word. Although I really don't have much desire to take on all that work again. I'm edging closer to retirement. The problem is, I'm too anal to let anyone else take over my baby, lol.

I'm very particular about doing things my way - using the same icon all the time, making sure the fic header info is the same, capitalising the fic titles etc etc. Probably stuff no-one except me even notices though.

I don't know. I might run one more and see how I feel later. It's probably not the best time now anyway, with Xmas and all.

well. with the anal thing, you could do one of two things. if you decide you want to be done with it all.

1. find someone as anal as you. they do exist. i'm one of them, lol. i get the same way when i've run bj_action challenges. i'd offer to help you, except i've got my hands overfull with the 6 asylums i theoretically maintain totally neglect already. but i know there are people out there willing to help and willing to do things the way you'd like them done.

or

2. encourage/give blessing to someone interested in opening a similar community. that way you could preserve your's as is without depriving the fandom of continuing the great tradition of challenges.

just my two cents. it's really none of my business what you do with your asylum, it's just that, selfishly, as a reader and a writer, the challenges are one of my favorite aspects of the fandom.

Well I've never said no-one else is allowed to open a challenge comm. They don't need my blessing, they just need to do it. I don't have a trademark on challenge comms. If anyone REALLY cared enough to want to run one, they can, and probably would have by now.

I saw a new xmas challenge comm over the holidays, even though qaf_giftxchnge already exists, so... people will do what they want.

And I mean, no-one except Xie has ever asked to guest host a challenge in my comm either, so I don't think people out there are dying to run challenges.

All I know is, they're a SHITLOAD of work to run.

well, yes some people don't care. but others of us have no wish to step on your toes since you've already been running a fantastic challenge asylum for QAF fandom.

i'm not saying anyone is dying to run one, because they are a lot of work, but a lot of people would be hesitant to just be like "Hey Alice, can I guest host?" or they don't know there is a need because they assume you still plan on running them.

or maybe I am the only person who thinks like this...*shrugs*

Maybe they're hesitant, but they'll never know if they don't ask, right?

Obviously I'm not opposed to the idea since Xie already ran one.

Anyway, like I said, I'll probably run this one, because I'd like to see the idea through, and then we'll see what happens.

I think there were two that I had to bail on. I'm trying to remember if I actually started writing something...lol

It's a great idea, though, I might wanna do this. I only have one challenge that I'm committed to right now, it's a good time. Any idea as to when you might post the challenge?

I don't know. It's probably too soon for some, the gift_xchange was just on, and people might be away for the holidays...? What do you think?

Maybe announce the challenge around the 10th or 15th of January? That will make the fics due by March 1 or thereabouts, yeah?

Hmm, I think I usually only give 6 weeks for a deadline. I'll have to go back and look at the old challenges. I've forgotten!

I think it used to be about 8 weeks including sign up time. I'll probably announce it around January 7, I think...

That should work out fine. :D

Considering how many of us have had to drop out of one challenge or another, or new people who wanted to write for a past prompt, you could get a huge turnout for this!! I'll pimp, you know.

Cool, thanks! I'm most excited about seeing the fics that were half done already, finally come to fruition. But new fic is always good too!

I think this is a great idea for a challenge. I don't have anything left unfinished, challenge-wise. But I can think of at least one challenge where I want a do-over. LOL And I have a bunch of unfinished fics on my hard drive that could do with a push to get me to finish them. If either of those two categories were part of the challenge, then I could play, too. :)

Well, you can definitely write a do-over, or you can write for a theme you hadn't already written for previously.

Additionally, I'm going to have a new theme of Second Chances, for those who prefer it.

I applaud this idea.
Unfortunately, I know that I won't be able to make this deadline either.
I'm bound and determined to finish my WIPs before taking on the challenge WIPs that lay in my closet.
great idea though.
