The cat gave a strong push of his back legs, arching up and landing silently on the window ledge. He ignored the stiffness that seemed to increase with the passing of years.
The night was cool for early spring, but a warm glow lit the large room beyond the glass, illuminating the two figures that moved with the familiar music.
He didn't understand calendars or anniversaries or why people would want to turn in circles on a hard wooden floor, their laughter making a second song against the night. But it was the same every year and so he watched.
