Having just seen Kill Your Darlings, I would adore a line based on the movie!relationship between Lucien Carr and David Kammerer. I'm looking for someone to play a character in the latter's role. Having seen the movie would be wonderful but isn't necessary and I'll put details behind the cut to avoid spoilers. If you're interested in lines involving obsessive love, age gaps, manipulation, and generally tumultuous relationships please read on.
In the movie, Lucien is a charismatic, pleasure-seeking, manipulative, and somewhat troubled young man who's been raised with a wealthy and overbearing mother. There's some insinuation that he's mentally unstable. David, Lucien's former teacher, has acted as his 'savior' for the past years - his apartment acts as a place of refuge, he writes Lucien's college assignments, and he sees that life is running smoothly more or less. For all that it could be completely normal and consensual, David's interest in Lucien began when the boy was 14 and there's a very interesting underlying dynamics in that involving dependence, manipulation, and all of those other things one can expect when a man in (at least) his thirties becomes a fourteen year old's world. At the time in the movie there's a very real codependence on both character's parts, some sort of love there (I would argue at least, although it's sort of open to interpretation) that isn't necessarily healthy, and a great deal of manipulation from both sides. Lucien manipulates those around him for his own purposes and David, though he's often simply in the background of Lucien's life at that point, uses key words and reminders that trigger more complacent behavior from Lucien.
While I think having other characters to interact with would sort of make the line, I do think I'm looking at least try attempt a PSL right now (unless there's a community my fellow writer has had their eye on). I'm not looking for a complete rehashing of the movie's plot but I am looking for a very toxic relationship wherein love/hate is key and manipulation is sort of par for the course. I'd also particularly love to set it in a world that's a bit more interesting than modern day - apocalyptic, supernatural (vampires particularly), etc. If any of this sounds intriguing I'm more than happy to elaborate!
And if anyone enjoys gif sets to get a vibe for a line as much as I do here's an excellent set that gives the gist of David in the movie and here's one of Lucien. And for a completely spoilerific set (please be warned!) that gets to the love/hate and obsessive aspects feel free to check out this. I'd love the same PBs but that isn't a must at all.
