who: Nic & Jamie
what: Meeting
when: Around 8pm
where: Starbucks!

Ever since Monday afternoon, Nic's stomach had been in knots. She really cared about Jason (Nic wouldn't dare say love this early on, she wasn't going down that road again) and she absolutely adored Kathleen, but knowing that they had previously dated just made things... weird. She couldn't very well talk to Kathleen about it without feeling extremely awkward, and she didn't want to confront Jason and upset him, but she had to get it off her chest. That's why she had updated her journal. And in all honesty, she hadn't thought a random person would come by and comment on her entry with the same exact issue going on with his relationship. Of course Nic knew that she wasn't the only person in Providence going through a rough patch in her relationship, she just hadn't expected something like this to happen. Not that she was going to turn down the chance to talk to someone about it. Jamie knew just what she was going through, who cared if she didn't know him? That was all going to change later that evening anyway.

So when 7 rolled around, the blonde went about her business and cleaned her station up, putting away her tools and folding her capes, before she escaped the salon. Nic knew she didn't have enough time to run home and change out of her black slacks and work polo, but she did have enough time to run into Delia's and get something not so... professional. She bought a simple white t-shirt and this hoodie, not able to resist its cuteness factor. After purchasing the two, Nic swung by the bathrooms and changed, as well as redid her ponytail and touched her make-up up, before heading out to her car and over to Starbucks.

When she got there, she realized she didn't have any clue whatsoever as to what Jamie looked like. Stuffing her hands into the pockets of her hoodie, Nic decided to stand near the door and just wait, hoping that he would recognize her as the tall blonde. The tall blonde turning eight shades of red if he decided to call out her name.

Knowing that he wasn't the only one worried about his relationship did manage to make Jamie feel a little bit better about things. Of course, he didn't know Nicole, and he didn't really know what the story was on her relationship issues, and she didn't know anything about his. But sometimes it really helped to meet a stranger and talk to them about your problems, because then you could get a completely unbiased opinion on the situation. The stranger really had no ties to either party in the situation, so it helped to get their take on the entire thing, because they weren't invested with one person or the other. And Jamie was usually a pretty laid-back, chill kind of guy, so for him to be worried about something, it had to be really bothering him. He normally didn't complain whatsoever about things.

Getting out of class at 4pm, Jamie made his way back to the apartment he shared with a few friends right on campus. He dropped his books on his desk in his room, and instead of sitting down to study like he had originally planned, he glanced over at his bed. It just looked way too inviting, and he had been up way too early for class that morning, and the pull of napping won out over studying. Kicking his shoes off, he made his way over to the bed and collapsed face-down, falling asleep almost instantly.

Waking up and rolling over, Jamie saw that the clock said that it was 7:49pm. "Ah, shit. I'm gonna be late," he groaned, getting out of bed and putting his shoes back on. He was supposed to meet Nicole at Starbucks around 8pm, and he had given himself 11 minutes to get there. 10, now. Grabbing his keys, he ran down to his car and got inside, starting it up and heading in that direction. Parking his car on the street the building, he glanced at his watch. 8:03pm ... he hadn't done too bad. Seeing a tall blonde standing outside near the door, Jamie headed in her direction. "Psst," he called to the blonde. "Are you Nicole? Because, if you're not, I'm going to have to go in there and embarrass some poor girl named Nicole by shouting her name," he said, a smile crossing his face.

The wind had picked up in the brief time she'd been standing outside and Nic had simply wrapped her arms around herself as she waiting, occasionally lifting her hand to push hair that had fallen out of her ponytail away from her face. The thought to go inside crossed her mind, but she decided to give Jamie until 8:05 before she went and found a warm seat inside. Pressing her back against the wall behind her, she turned her head to look at an approaching male who had 'psst'ed at her. Slender brow arched as he spoke before a grin pulled the corners of her mouth upwards.

"I'm so glad I stayed outside then," she said, pushing off the wall behind her and moving closer to where he stood. The closer she got, the harder it was to notice he was extremely good-looking. It was a general observation that she couldn't help but make. The guy was hot. Reaching her hand up, she scratched the back of her head, hoping to distract herself of those thoughts. "So I'm going to jump out on a limb here and assume you're Jamie." Nic reached a hand out for the door and when she had a firm grip on the handle, she turned back to him, "and if you're not, you're still joining me for coffee," she chimed with a sweet smile before she pulled the door open. She stepped inside and held the door open behind her, only removing her arm when he had taken a hold of it.

It wasn't every day that Nic met with strangers for a cup of coffee, though this would be her second outing in the last couple of weeks. Her hands stuffed themselves back into the pockets of her hoodie and as she reached the last person in line, she turned around to face Jamie. "It's nice to meet you face-to-face, Jamie." Crooking her lip to the side and rolling her eyes upwards, she blew a stream of air upward to get her hair out of her face. When the hair drifted to the side, she returned her attention to Jamie. "So what do you do here in Providence?" It'd be nice to get to know him a little before delving into their relationship issues, right?

Jamie laughed and nodded when she made her comment, assuming that he was who she was supposed to meet. “Yes, I am Jamie. And, though it’s very nice to meet you, I am kind of disappointed that I won’t have the chance to embarrass the hell out of you by running into Starbucks and yelling your name. I had the whole thing planned out. I was even going to drop to my knees and raise my fists in the air, like a battle cry,” he teased, his hands shoved into the pockets of his jeans.

Nicole opened the door and Jamie pulled a hand out of his pocket and grabbed it once he could reach it, following her into the coffee shop. The comforting scent of coffee beans wafted to his nose, and he smiled. Being a college student, Jamie had stayed up for plenty of all-nighters, writing last-minute papers. And for things like that, coffee was a necessity. So he had grown pretty accustomed to loving the smell of coffee. Especially Starbucks coffee, it was probably an addiction of his that he’d need to work on. But, it wasn’t an unhealthy addiction, and it wasn’t illegal. So why bother?

Turning his attention to the blonde when she turned around to face him once they got in line, Jamie smiled and nodded at her. “Yes, it’s nice to meet you face-to-face as well, Nicole,” he said, his hands shoving themselves into his pockets again. It was a habit of his. Not exactly a nervous habit, just a habit in general. Jamie was a really big people person, he loved meeting new people and making new friends. Though, there had only been a few instances where those friends that he had made were the kinds of friends that you had forever. Tilting his head to the side as she asked him what he did, Jamie cleared his throat. “I’m a student at Brown … I’m studying criminal psychology,” he smiled. He was really interested in his field of study, but most people weren’t, so he just left it at that. “What about you? What do you do?”

Nic found herself snickering at his teasing and she let out a small sign as she shrugged her shoulders. "There's always next time, yeah?" she said, referring to their outing that coming weekend. Yeah, she'd just met him, but he better not back out on her. But if he did, she always knew that she and Kale could have a great time all on their own. "If you really want to go all out, I'd wear some battle paint, too." Grinning crookedly, the blonde lifted her hand to her mouth to cover her bit of laughter and she eventually shook her head before heading into the Starbucks.

The smell of coffee lingered in her nostrils as she stood in line, rocking back on her heels for a quick moment out of habit. Nic wasn't the biggest coffee drinker, caffeine always made her extremely jittery once it hit her system at full force and that wasn't a redeeming quality when it came to styling hair, but she figured that one cup that night wouldn't hurt her so long as she followed it with a couple glasses of water when she got back to her apartment. Flush it out of her system and she'd be fine come her time to go into the salon in the morning. She needed to be on her best behavior anyway; Mrs. Nicholas was her first client of the day...and that woman was always a thorn in Nic's side when it came to coloring her hair. She was one of the most argumental people the blonde knew.

But that was neither here or there. "Wow, that's some major," she said, thoroughly impressed with Jamie already. "I bet it's interesting, though," Nic added, glancing back over her shoulder to make sure she wasn't holding the line up with looking the other way. Just as she did, the person a head of them stepped up to the counter and she took a step backwards. "Me? I do hair. And make-up." Nic loved what she did and almost always had a blast doing it. Noticing that the person in front of her had stepped away to wait for their drink, the blonde spun around on her heels and stepped up to the counter. "Hi. Can I get a caramel macchiato?" The barista nodded, asking for her name and telling her how much it was going to be. Nic dug a few bills out of the front pocket of her pants and handed the girl the money, stuffing the change in her pocket once she received it.

She stepped to the side just as the person had before her, leaning her hip against the counter as she waited on her drink, listening to Jamie order his as she did so. Her arms wrapped themselves around her midsection once more, and she tilted her head ever so much when he stepped to the side to join her and wait for his beverage. "Where're you from?" Nic kind of figured he wasn't from around Providence...a lot of students that went to Brown weren't. That and he didn't sound like he was from around there. She should know, she'd been there her entire life.

Snickering, Jamie nodded. “Yeah, next time. I’ll embarrass you at some point, don’t worry. I tend to embarrass people all the time,” he smiled, then rose a brow at her next comment. “Battle paint? I didn’t even think about that one! You’re good,” he said, pointing at her and letting a smile cross his face again. “I should write your name in battle paint across my forehead,” he snickered, shaking his head. “Okay, I’m done weirding you out, promise,” he laughed, scratching the back of his neck while he waited in the line, glancing up at the menu to see what the coffee shop offered that he wanted. He knew he’d probably just end up getting a frappachino, since that was what he usually got, but who knew? Maybe he’d go crazy and get something different.

Glancing back at Nic and nodding when she complimented his major, Jamie smiled. “It’s really interesting, yeah,” he told her, putting one of his hands into his pocket of his jeans, and gesturing with the other while he talked. “See … criminal psychology isn’t really a major. No schools offer it. So I’m really just double majoring. I’m majoring in Psychology, and then minoring in Criminal Justice,” he told her, scratching behind his head again. “What I really want to do is get into like, the FBI as a criminal profiler or something like that. I’m good at that stuff, and it’s something I really want to do,” he told her, shrugging. Giving her a smile, he shoved his second hand into his pockets as well. “Sorry, I don’t mean to bore you with that stuff … I just get really talkative about my major once I get started,” he laughed a little, shrugging. “But, I’m in my last year, I graduate in May. So, that’s exciting,” he nodded.

Stepping up to the counter after Nicole did, Jamie change his mind at the last minute and opted to just go with a tall café mocha. He was in the mood for a hot coffee instead of something cold, and he loved mocha. It made coffee taste so much better, he thought. Turning to her after he paid and moved down to wait for his coffee, Jamie crossed his arms over his chest. “You’re a hair stylist? That’s pretty awesome. I, unfortunately, wouldn’t have much use for you,” he pointed at his short spiky hair, “but if I ever need a haircut, now I know who to go to,” he smiled. “I usually wait until I go home to see the folks to get my hair cut, but maybe I’ll trust you with some scissors,” he smiled. “Where am I from?” he repeated, turning around when he heard his name called. Both his and Nicole’s drink orders were ready, and he grabbed both of them, handing hers to her. “I’m from a small town in Colorado. I moved here for school, and I’m pretty sure that I’m going to stay here when I graduate,” he nodded his head. “What about you? Are you originally from Providence?” he asked.

He was quite an entertaining character, Nic would definitely give him that. "I was thinking more along the lines of Braveheart, but my name across your forehead could be fun, too," she teased, feeling at complete ease with him. The blonde didn't think it was weird in the least that she felt so comfortable around Jamie, who was still basically a stranger. Nic had four brothers and because of that, she grew up surrounded by them and their friends, swimming in testosterone. She did, however, find it a little bit odd that she felt she could already be open with him, and that she really didn't have to watch what she said around him. Not that she felt that way around Jason! No, no. It was just...Jason was more of the thoughtful, deep type (at least the Jason she knew was) and Jamie seemed to be outgoing and silly.

She listened as he explained his situation with his studies at the university and nodded. When he apologized, she lifted a hand and waved it off with a shake of her head. "I think you'd get along with my older brothers," she told him with a small grin, "they both attended the police academy." Her lips twitched for a moment before she leaned in, almost like she were telling him a secret. "Don't tell them this, but what you want to do sounds so much cooler." She tossed a wink at him as she stepped back, grinning. Nic loved her brothers, she did, but criminal psychology? Wow.

"I'd be happy to trim your hair," she smiled. "And I assure you I'm quite talented with a pair of scissors, thank you." Nic didn't go to through training every other month to get rusty with her tools of the trade, that much she was sure of. Not that she minded, it was fun to learn new cuts and tricks and what not. Taking her drink from him as he handed it to her, she thanked him and turned to move towards a table near the window. Colorado? A part of her was tempted to ask him if he knew Kate, but she figured it was silly. Colorado was a big state...and there was no way another weird coincidence would happen. "Born and raised," she answered, shaking the Colorado train of thought from her head as she took a seat. "I took off for about a year and a half for school, but that's the only time I've ever left the state." Setting her drink down on the surface, she crossed her legs and leaned forward a little, propping her chin in her upturned palm. "So I can't be the only one who finds it bizarre we're meeting on such...unique terms," Nic let out with a small chuckle, figuring she might as well get the obvious out in the open.
