['Tis the season.

The season for arrivals.

Such as snow, for example. Well, it's technically not the season, given it's summer, but at the same time it's the holiday season, and so it's definitely the season for it. It doesn't matter if you try to argue against this perfect logic, because in any case the snow will arrive - a subtle frost first, then a solid white blanket covering it all. From the mountains in the Crimson Woods to the prairies near Sunset Village, but particularly around the south, at Tourmaline City and the port areas; roofs, pathways, parks, ponds and gardens will turn into a winter fantasyland, ideal for snow angels, sliding on sleighs, skating.... or simply staying home, cursing the weather from within a blanket coccoon. In fact, if you were lacking winter clothes in your closet, it's a great time to go stock up in stores, which will temporarily carry coats and scarves. Or you could just grab hot chocolate that will be sold around every corner. Or maybe join in on the holiday cheer and hang fairy lights or garlands, set up a colorful tree in your home, even buy some last-minute gifts.

But that's not all that will be arriving, although this other visit might not be as obvious. It will start sneakily creeping up some tree branches, hanging from unaware lintels, even showing up floating above the heads of careless victims, until it achieves its goal. This tenacious invader of green leaves and red fruits won't disappear until those underneath it do the traditional kiss, so you better watch your surroundings. It's mistletoe season too, afterall, and these are as magical as they are capricious.

Will that be all that arrives? Maybe. Christmas and New Year are coming up, so these days will have many different things approaching at high speed.

Perhaps somewhere out there, there's a boat, approaching slowly but surely across the sea, and some music that can be heard stronger and stronger at a distance... What is it?

Well, you'll know when it arrives. But most likely it's nothing short of all your dreams come true.]

[[Snow & Mistletoe log! Backdated to around xmas time. Feel free to be creative with mistletoe - maybe it's asking for a long hug, or hand-holding, or a slap to the face!

EN ESPAÑOL. Post de nieve y muérdagos! Backdatteado a alrededor de la navidad. Pueden ser creativos con los muérdagos, quizá les pidan un abrazo largo, o que se tomen la mano, ¡o un cachetazo!]

We knew each other at that other world we were both at, before. [That's not a "yes", Eli. He apparently does notice how he's making it sound.] So you could say so, yeah. You'll see once you talk to her. [She's very prickly and all, so he's going to play it as if it's her usual ways what keeps them from being officially 'friends', and not his own disinterest.

Then again, he does like her more than he's willing to admit.]

Ah. [So it's that again. He can't say he's surprised by now, and doesn't quite necessarily feel any type of way about it, or so he tells himself.]

I'll have to see how that goes. [Haha. Meaning........... he'll take his time to make an approach, if at all. It's fines.] Seems whatever so-called bridge is connecting the world here to places elsewhere is still going strong, regardless.

[Nods at that.]

And favoring this one world, or at least it feels that way. [Maybe some of the Travelers they meet regularly have also met at different worlds and haven't bothered to mention it, afterall.]

[Exactly.]

It's curious, isn't it? One could argue the connection does simply seem more noticeable because of how many of you recognize each other.

Still, the long arm of coincidence only stretches so far. I suppose we'll continue to see that much.

If it's anything like we're used to, then it's definitely no coincidence at all. [Perhaps not the best move to reveal that with such certainty, but he wants you to confide in him.]

[Truthfully he's inclined to say he thinks the same from the get-go, but the look he settles on is a contemplative one first, if not all too forced or held back.]

Like the similar occurrences you mentioned between here and there? If that's so, then it would stand to reason for there to be some sort of end goal from it.

We wondered about that for a good while, but as far as we know, the only goal was to annoy us whenever possible. [Where 'annoy' sometimes meant horribly traumatizing shenanigans, but shh.]

[Breathes out a scoff, not missing the implication for more there given some of what he's gathered in talks until now.]

Pointless to consider further, I suppose. That might as well be the case.

Maybe they did have an ultimate goal, and it was just difficult to see in-between being inconvenienced by them in various ways. [Again, where 'inconvenienced' sometimes meant being horribly hurt or even killed, or having their deepest fears realized.]

I wouldn't be surprised. What better way to conceal some grand scheme than under the guise of mild inconvenience?

[Which speaking of - he might have started to say more, to suggest moving perhaps or taking the conversation indoors given the weather. But he doesn't get far enough to even take a step, visibly startled when he tries, unaware of the source yet but. Are u srs.]

... I shouldn't have said anything.

[All too familiar with the pesky plants that can trap them this way, he doesn't take long to look up and indeed find one of those messing with them.]

This again. [SIGH.]

[Even without the same sort of familiarity of the shenanigans, the topic of conversation is enough context follow his gaze and look dubiously up too. Mistletoe?]

Speak of the devil, I take it... Is this our culprit?

Yeah. [Evidently.] They were a big favorite, constantly trapping people together back in the world I was last in. [Always showing up, even off-season.]

How... committed.

[Cool! Great. A sinking feeling follows the obvious thought that comes along with this all.]

No doubt I'm going to regret the answer. But just how much do the terms of our release hinge on the - tradition these represent? [Uhhhh.]

[Well, you might feel relieved for a second hearing this:] It's not always what's required.

[And then a little colorful note floats down, showing a very cartoonish depiction of two blob-like people kissing.]

[...] [...........] Although it might be, this time.

[He can't help the absolute what the fuck is that look that crosses his face at catching a glance at the note and processing the whiplash of going from reassurance to the complete opposite end.]

You're serious. [.................. Sigh.] And no such thing as waiting out this particular trap, is there.

[Even a timer wouldn't help in this weather but still-!!]

[Yes, he's familiar with the initial reactions to this particular dilemma.]

Not as far as I remember. And if it's the same as I've encountered before, once some time has passed it'll just-- [He cuts off as he suddenly stumbles closer, bumped by the magic of the mistletoe trap.] [SIGH.] ... Do that.

[He's taken aback just enough to stagger too, slightly, baffled expression persisting until it becomes more or less a frown of acceptance for the current situation at hand.]

[...] I see.

[As a reflex, that sudden shift in the space of their little prison made his hand raise between them as though he could push for more distance like normal. Seeing the inevitability of it properly here... he drops it.]

Alright. Seeing as there's no negotiating these terms... So be it. I'd rather not find out how much worse it gets.

[He doesn't blame him for the gesture, especially since he's new to all of this. He's not a fan of the forced proximity either.]

Truly. I'm sorry it's come to this. [Not like it's his fault, but he can tell this isn't anyone's ideal scenario.] I'll go ahead, then...?

Don't be.

[It comes out a bit of a sigh, obligatory just as much as he recognizes the way Eli's apology kind of is too, and so the response is simply continuing the motion - acknowledging in turn that yes, there's no fault here beyond an inevitable situation. Akechi lets his shoulders relax and follows into a knowing nod to further that, allowing.]

... Go on, yes. It's fine. [All business, nothing to it, surely.]

[He'll place his hands on Akechi's shoulders, as much to keep him at a certain distance as it is to pull him closer, and lean in to press a soft kiss against his lips. Not too light, as he knows that won't work with these pesky plants.]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]juste
2024-06-05 09:34 am UTC (link)
[Rather than question it, he's quick to catch on exactly why it's not a quick and easy peck and get out, because of course - it wouldn't be, would it? In the spirit of hopefully not having to double the efforts, he puts forth his part too - responding as best he can in the brief moment that the kisses passes, light, awkward but deliberate.]

... Well. [He doesn't look up at the plant, doesn't yet even move right away, but at least he hopes to mask himself feeling so out of his element by "addressing" their captor instead of letting silence linger.]

Will that do well enough?

[At least he won't think much of any awkwardness there, considering it a must for these type of scenarios.]

[He steps back when that question's asked, and voila he can indeed move freely again.]

Works like a bloody charm.

[Likewise steps back, shoulders square and prim, if not entirely masking his own annoyance... but hey, freedom.]

That's something. [SIGH. Okay.] My... thanks, strange as it is to say. The element of surprise won out this time, but now I'll know, at least to some extent.

[You could've ended up with much worse, he thinks, such as a certain vampire he hates.]

No problem. It's usually best to stay inside when it gets like this - they'll show up everywhere.
