[With Halloween gone, you might be pulled into an illusion of safety. Afterall, there's no reason to be pestered now, no new costumes to be added, no creepy monsters to follow you.

Ah, but one can always be an inconvenience to those in this land. Nothing so terrible this time, depending on your views and past experiences... You're likely to wake up with a set of wings today.

No arm replacement, just a pair of large wings like typical imagery of angels, in a variety of colors and textures fitting the owners. You could freak out, wonder at the fluff of down, or even attempt to fly - and yes, it is possible, although watch out you're not in mid-air by the time this addition ends.]

[[Good ol' fashioned Wings Event! Exactly what it sounds. & don't worry, charas are unlikely to end up splattered in the ground because of this.

EN ESPAÑOL. El clásico post de Alas! Exacto lo que suena. & no se preocupen, los personajes tienen poca chance de terminar aplastados en el suelo por esto.]]

[No, he thinks, immediately. But then... he supposes he should at least try and see what kind of people there are in this world. You never know when knowing someone can be useful.]

[He shrugs for an answeer too, now frankly curious that you can get this close, with his powers still activated to cause discomfort inside a certain radius around him. But he can feel your nerves-- perhaps you have some sort of ability to protect yourself?]

Not interested in puting your wings to test?

[It's a funny thing - of all the squarely paranormal things in Akechi's life (up to and including the two unseen entities that swim around in his soul), he doesn't actually have any sort of mystical protections in place for this. He takes his seat when permitted with more than enough polite distance left from Victor, crosses one leg over the other and rests his leather-gloved hands on his knees in all but normal motions.

Under the surface though, the situation is a different beast. Your effect doesn't register to him directly yet not because he doesn't feel or he's immune - but by the sheer stubborn nature of his disregard. Not quite recklessness, a more calculated and ingrained thing, the dull uncomfortable roar an inconvenience he can bear through just like everything else has always been in his life. It probably says way too much about Akechi himself, more than he'd want to share, that the way he's subconsciously brute forcing it is his default, a feature not a bug.

So your question just leads him to a brief pause, a glance back your way, then a placid smile in answer:]

I'm afraid of heights. [Joke or not? He's just a baby surely. (It's just a straight up lie.)]

Luckily, as we're seeing... There's already plenty others to spectate in their efforts.

[That polite distance is appreciated, at least. And it's also good for, say, a little experimentation with a closer look.

He remains in his seat and his position, glancing barely in your direction in a polite attempt at engaging in conversation as people are expected to. But, at the same time, he starts to sense your nerves. No more than extending his power to you, and through your nervous system, carefully feeling the electric current without interfering with it, the same way that you would barely touch something just to make the shape of it. And, as he already thought, it seems... pretty normal. Nothing of note, no strange bump or invisible wall to stop his influence. By all means, you should be feeling the discomfort... so, why aren't you reacting to it? It's quite interesting.]

My condolences. [He says, dryily. Poor you.] So, you came for the show?

[Even the little signs that progressively get more telling are still rather subtle the more you probe at him. Like the ways Akechi shifts slightly in his seat or rocks his leg, how his jaw seems like it might clench then doesn't quite. And probably the most visible, the habit he has of tugging at the edge of his gloves to readjust them. (Who wears leather gloves and a sweater-vest during hot weather? This guy does.)

He shrugs, a non-committal hum of an answer.]

No, the show was unexpected. Perhaps a happy coincidence? [Haa. He can feel sweat start to gather at the back of his neck, thankfully hidden by his long hair, but uncomfortable regardless. Fuck, honestly, what is this.] If you'd both forgive the intrusion, that is.

[He wears long black coats in summer, so pot to kettle anyway.][Oh, he can tell-- he's very observant. He wonders if it's just anxiety of some sort, or if his power is actually having some effect over you. And since he doesn't find any anomaly to infere it couldn't, well... he starts to realize you might be a very stubborn young man indeed. Almost inhumanely so.]

Oh, I'm very forgiving. [And a fucking liar. He gestures towards the sky, to Eli flying above.] He's the one you'd have to ask for forgiveness, really.

[And Eli's forgiveness is its own special kind of fun. Usually involving guns and murder and holy crusades, though much less these days, to be fair.]

Really.

[Akechi's gaze follows your gesture, catching sight of him again up in the sky with observant eyes that are sharp as knives despite any pressure exerted on him. And even despite Akechi's own efforts to keep a softer outer demeanor in the present situation here... well, stubborn is entirely correct as far as descriptions of him go. He would sooner blame the hot weather, the wings, anything else, before admitting or giving into his own physical limitations. Aware of it or not, fuck this, he hasn't lost yet.]

In my experience, frankly, forgiveness is something of a concept that's far too vague to be very practical. Isn't it? An idea that will always have a different meaning for every individual that conceives of it...

[A garbage, useless thing.] Well. Even so, I'll be sure to ask him for his next time.

[... Oh. Alright, that little speech definitely increases his interest. Because he agrees on it-- forgiveness is too complex a subject, for the levity with which people usually handle it. Because is the kind of philosophical conversation he enjoys, and because you seem young enough that he wouldn't expect that kind of musings from your part. But mostly, because he is very good at reading people, and he can already tell you are probably more than you appear... or than you want to appear.]

Even so, yes. [His tone is thoughtful, looking directly at you now. Intently.] I don't think I heard your name.

[Philosophy is a funny thing. He "uses" his knowledge of it like so many other mature things to make himself seem older in the adult world - reading and memorizing the words of dead thinkers as a tool to be used for his purposes ever since he was even younger, living through a bastard's childhood. Somewhere along the way though, it turns out he unironically really does enjoy going down the rabbit hole of turning over concepts and thoughts and ideas more than as just an act.]

Goro Akechi. Just Akechi is fine.

[He wasn't quite avoiding direct eye-contact until now, but perhaps feeling your stare, he looks sidelong back directly too, watchful even at the disadvantage he doesn't yet know he's under.] I should have said sooner. And yours?

[Not too unlike his own approach to philosopy, really. Altough in his case, it was more to set himself apart from his peers, and to have smart arguments to defy, ridicule and irritate adults around him, specially his parents.

Now, he takes note of your name for later, if necessary, and nods in response.]

Victor. [He doesn't add his lastname-- no need to share that information for now.] Have you been long in this world, Akechi?

[He gives an acknowledging, "good to meet you" sort of nod (or is it) and then breaks away eye contact first, to glance up at the sky again.]

Relatively long. From the same day as he, actually.

[His gaze doesn't linger upwards all too much, this time making himself the first to look back down to you again, making a gesture of his hand - another habit he does often, talking while moving his hands.

He mentioned you is the thought in his mind that he keeps to himself for now - not by name, but by description, and now he can file away both in his mind too as a match.] Though I suppose it was among many others traveling here the same way.

[Or is it, indeed.][This time, he just keeps looking at you, even when you don't, scrutinizing. His tone is light, though, almost casual.]

I'm not surprised you met him already. Eli is quite good at making friends. [And that's a blatant lie, but he doesn't even blink saying it. Whatever Eli thought of you, it was probably more close to 'useful' than 'friendly'-- it's the same thing Victor would have thought. But right now, what he's thinking is not about ways of capitalizing this interaction, but more just... how puzzling your resistance to his power is.]

And what do you make of this place? [As he says that, he turns up a little the imaginary dial that is his ability to increase pain, just to see what happens. Now is not a faint discomfort you would feel, but something like a slight prickle all over your body-- almost pain, but not quite there yet.]

[The increase may be but a nudge, but perhaps exactly because it's so deliberate and targeted at him directly now... this becomes the moment where the line crosses from a willfully ignored subconscious to aware and baffled, for Akechi.

His left hand clenches reflectively and remains like that shakily, a flicker of confusion on his face that he actively has to force back to neutral. The furrow lingers between his brows, hidden by his long bangs over his forehead, but still -- what? What the fuck is... He almost looks like he's going to ask you to repeat the question. Or glare at you for speaking at all, but neither happens (yet?)]

Hmm? ... There probably isn't as much insight for me to give, comparatively at least. As I've been told, this particular place isn't even the first sort world that others have been forced to settle in.

[Meanwhile little old him has definitely never done any crossing of dimensions and the like, nah.... His answer comes out somewhat drawn out like he's focusing on speaking words as a distraction enough to think through the strange sensation.]

[Maybe it's the magic of this world? Maybe the wings? Perhaps you are about to sprout feathers all over your body, wouldn't that be fun!]

[Now, that-- that, he notices. The subtle change in your expression, the tension and forced blankness, the distraction. Oh, so you noticed it, now? Perhaps you are not really immune to his abilities... and that makes everything even more intriguing.

But he continues, conversational.]

No, I've heard the same. [More than that, he has experienced it. But again, he doesn't need to tell you that.] It makes you wonder, about what we consider 'strange' and 'normal' in our own worlds.

[He says, shaking barely his black wings behind him, significantly. At the same time, he pushes the dial even a little more-- now you should feel a dull ache, like you were going to catch the flu any moment.]

[The wings is an easy enough first guess but instinct tells him something about it doesn't feel quite right to surmise either. When the increase comes again, he's overwhelmed with the desire to slump over, to press a hand over his own face and bites back heavily against a groan. For the first time since coming here, he seriously considers dropping his entire facade for the annoyance of this moment alone.

Doesn't go unnoticed either that the person sitting beside him has made no mention of anything like what he's experiencing and... well, if Akechi was resistant without realizing it at first, now he's at full stubborn and shoving back against the effect even harder. He's made it to TV programs perfectly while feeling infinitely worse than this. But fuck.]

It certainly is relative. [Breathes out in slow, measured exhales, shifting his crossed leg to settle better and keep his hands at his knee again.] Magic and perhaps even things such as these wings could well be a normal affair for enough people here.

Coming from a city without such things has... been something of an adjustment.

[He's still looking at you, with a relaxed expression but with sharp eyes, intent on noticing any sign of discomfort or pain. And the way you try to level your breathing, those little movements that could pass for normal changes in your position but could also be disguising unrest-- that's enough for now.

He straigthens a bit, satisfied with his little experiment and the conclusions he draws from it: you are definitely affected by his power, and any remarkable resistance you have is mental, not physical.]

Oh, we all need to adjust now and then. Some more than others. [As he says this, he lifts completely his power from your nerves. The strange and painful sensation should disappear abruptly, as mysteriously as it appeared, and it might leave you wondering if it was there at all in the first place. But the relief your body would feel can be evidence of the contrary.] It's the key to survival, after all.

[The thing is- Akechi has seen those eyes before. Not from Victor directly, of course, not even from anyone here until this exact moment. Another time and place long past, authoritative figures looking at him just to watch him tick, to take him apart and re-piece him together again. Impassive faces yet wild watchful eyes.

Suddenly he wants to laugh, to let loose a deranged, defiant cackle that Loki would be proud of. Especially so when the pain leaves him and it feels like he's been punched from the relief of it harder than if he had left it. Maybe... if Akechi was less obsessive and observant himself, this would have passed as just a strange occurrence, a random magical situation. In the end, it's Victor's eyes that make him certain of exactly what just happened. He nearly calls it out on the spot no evidence and all, holding back only just barely where his rage simmers.

What a neat fucking trick you have there.]

... Really. I'm not sure necessarily that I agree with that? [TV winning smile, no seething to see here.] It could just as well be a key to complacency.

[This is a confrontantion of obsessive, observant people, that's been left clear a while ago at this point. Victor himself doesn't miss on it, because he thinks he can see a hint of realization on your eyes-- Ah, well, that would be consistent with what he has observed so far. He would be almost disappointed if you didn't at least suspect him a bit, even if it's not really convenient.

Yes, it is indeed a neat trick. Except on the occassions it kills him, but other than that, he's really good at finding uses for it.]

... Hmm. And we wouldn't want to give into complacency, would we? [He straigthens a bit then, a hint of something like an amused smile on his lips.] That's a dangerous game.
