I'm having a few technical difficulties with getting assignments out--they'll be sent by tomorrow.

To that end, if you're willing to write or receive additional characters and/or pairings besides the ones you put in your sign up, would you drop me a note in the comments, pretty please? I've got a couple of assignments that're making it tricky to find someone to match with.

We would normally open up the sign ups for the next ficathon in mid-August, with a view to assigning stories by the beginning of September and due on 31st October, i.e. giving you 8 weeks to write something. It's what we've been doing for the rounds so far. However, for some reason I got it into my head that actually I should be thinking about opening sign ups up next month before I realised that I would be a month too early ::g::

With that in mind, would people like a bit longer than 8 weeks to deliver their stories, or do they feel that 8 weeks is about right, given that we set the minimum at only 1,000 words?

Just a reminder to everyone that stories are due in a little over a month. If you can't deliver on your assignment, you need to let us know that now so that we can either check with your assigned writer to see if they can switch to writing for your recipient instead or, if that's not possible, arrange for a pinch hitter to write the story. That way your recipient won't be left without a story when the reveal happens on 30 April.

The deadline for dropping out without penalty is the 31 March. If you drop out after that date, at our discretion we may not permit you to participate in future ficathons we run. However, even if you realise after the 31st that you're not going to deliver, you need to let us know as soon as possible. The more notice you give, the more time someone else has to step in and write something instead of you, and there's nothing worse for a ficathon than the due date rolling around with no story from you and no advance notice that was going to happen.

We'll be doing the beta post and the pinch hit posts in due course, so watch this space.

Tomorrow is the deadline for dropping out of the ficathon without penalty. And by 'penalty' we mean that we'll look at you with big and sad puppy eyes, and that if you drop out at the last minute you may also not be allowed to sign up in future depending on how good your excuse is on a sliding scale from 'the dog ate my ficathon entry' to 'I was kidnapped by aliens and what year is it again?'.

I'm also going to open up a 'pinch hit' post, looking for people to volunteer to write something in the event that someone drops out, and a beta post, where you can seek a beta or volunteer to beta for other people, tonight so be there or be vaguely rhomboid.

I hope that makes sense - if not, just ask :)

( Spring 2009 ficathon edition )

Stories are due next Tuesday, which is seven days, more or less, depending on where you are on the planet. *vbg*

Fear my command of teh English language tonight!

Just a couple of things:

Firstly, your ficathon assignments are due two weeks from tomorrow.

This also means that if you aren't going to be able to finish your story on time, you need to let us know now so we can organise a pinch hitter. Anyone dropping out after today without good reason may end up being banned from participating in future ficathons. Also, please remember that if it looks like your story is going to end up being epic and you don't think you'll get to finish it fully on time but would like to post it as a WIP, please contact aithine or I first to discuss how we take it forward. We're not unreasonable people (or aithine isn't - me, I'd check I'm fully stocked up on the diet coke front first ::g::), so we'll be as accomodating as we can, but it's better if we know now so we can be prepared.

Secondly, this is the official pinch hitter sign up post. For those who aren't familiar with the term, a pinch hitter is someone who steps in at short notice if one of the authors drops out without delivering a story to make sure that no one is left without one. They're therefore completely wonderful people :) And you don't have to have signed up for the ficathon in order to step in now, although we would ask that if you're a participant in this go around that you only sign up if you've already finished your own assignment or are 100% sure you can finish both.

So if you think that you, too, could be utterly wonderful, please leave a comment below with the following information:

- name
- e-mail address
- what you will write
- what you won't write.

Comments are screened to maintain that air of mystery in terms of who's getting what and from whom, but thank you to everyone who volunteers! If we need you, we'll let you know. Hopefully we won't, but we're grateful anyway :)

First, please use this post if you'd like to offer to beta for one of our writers. You can put what pairings, situations, etc., you're comfortable editing, to help folks can narrow down their options if you'd like.

Second, a reminder that stories are due on March 31! If you don't think you'll be finished by then, please let alylicious or myself know as soon as possible so we can make arrangements for a pinch hitter. Remember, if you default and don't let us know before the last two weeks before stories are due that you can't finish, barring a really excellent reason, you will be banned from participating in future ficathons.

Sign ups are now closed, since I've got the assignments done, yay! *g*

However, there's that pesky time zone issue, so alylicious won't get to check and make sure I didn't make any major mistakes in the queries I wrote to match everybody up until tomorrow. Ergo, assignments won't go out until tomorrow afternoon my time (MST).

If you haven't received your assignment by 12:01 a.m. GMT on February 5th, please let us know. :)

1) The server my site is on is currently experiencing issues (watch as A kicks it out the window), so you cannot access the sign up form at the moment. I'll update this post when it's fixed after the hosting company gets back to me. And nearly as soon as I've posted, it's back up. Go figure. ETA: And it's back down. *shakes fists of rage in DreamHost's direction*

2) Sign ups close on Saturday!

We'll be opening up sign-ups for the next primevalathon Primeval Ficathon next Monday (19th Jan), with a view to keeping them open until the 31st Jan, with stories being due on 31 March. However, as we may have already mentioned, we've been thinking about how we can make sure that things run a little more smoothly this time. So there are going to be some slight tweaks to the rules, which will hopefully help us to avoid some of the issues we experienced last time.
