Who: Katherine Pierce and Damon Salvatore
Where: Rose City Food Park
When: Saturday
What: Plottiness with foods, and interesting results.
Status: Closed/On-going
Warnings: Probably a lot of bitching and bad language

One of the bonuses about being the boss of Bar Fly was that Katherine wrote up the rotas, which allowed her to give herself the weekend off, for a change. After all they'd been through over the last couple of weeks she and Damon needed a little time that was just for them and she'd found the perfect place to take him for a day out. If she was honest it was more for her benefit that they were heading to the food park but the company was definitely appreciated. It hadn't even taken much persuasion, which had surprised her, but that only added to Katherine's good mood; the awesome car Damon had compelled didn't hurt either!

"We should always travel like this," she told him with a grin as Kat pushed a button, the top deftly rolling back and her hair blowing in the breeze. "I could certainly get used to this, which begs a pretty important question," she looked over at Damon and grinned, "when are you going to compel me my own wheels? I mean, it's not like I can do it myself these days and I'm sure Portland at night is a dangerous place, especially with all these vampires around!" Katherine chuckled to herself, fairly sure Damon would tell her to go to hell before he stole another car. It didn't hurt that they were back to teasing, though.

"Oooh, there!" she spotted the Food Park a little way down the street and almost lost her footing as she tried to stand up to get a better look. "Oh my god, I think I've found heaven!" She took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of spices and herbs that set her mouth watering. "I knew this place was going to be awesome, and you get to make fat jokes all day. Fun for all the family," Katherine slipped back into her seat and gave Damon a quick peck on the cheek. "So, what shall we try first? Eastern European or North African?" She would probably end up trying everything, at least that was her plan!

Damon glanced over at Katherine, not saying anything, he just watched as she happily sat back and enjoyed the drive. “I knew that was coming.” She had asked him before to compel her a car, but then they had their little argument and the thought of it all went out the window until now. “You’re not fooling me, Katherine, I know damn well you can take care of yourself. You’re Katherine Pierce, after all.” That girl didn’t survive as long as she had without knowing how to take care of herself. “We can get you car now and skip the food.” It was a suggestion, but he didn’t think she’d go for it.

“You’re way too happy,” he said as he glanced over again. He didn’t think he would be watching Katherine trying to stand up. “Will you sit your ass down.” He grabbed her by the arm and pulled her down until she was sitting again. “Don’t make me compel you to behave. You know I will,” he half teased. “We’re going to walk in there and you’re never going to want to leave.”

Once he parked the car, he got out and walked alongside Katherine, who was practically drooling the closer they got to the food. “Whatever you want to try.” This was more her thing. He was just along for the ride, so he really didn’t care where they started.

"Huh! You're a mind-reader now too?" Katherine asked with a grin, hardly surprised Damon had expected her question. She'd made no bones about loving the car he had, and was hoping one day to be a little more self-sufficient, not to mention stylish. "Okay, fine, I can totally take care of myself, for the most part," she admitted with a laugh, "though these days I do need a way to get the groceries from the store to home. Preferably without having to bat my eyelashes at my boyfriend," she told him with a grin. "How about we do it the other way around? Food then car?" she suggested hopefully, though something told her she wouldn't be driving home anytime soon!

"It's food! Of course I'm happy," Kat told him as though it were the most obvious thing in the world. Blood was good. Sometimes it was even incredible, but it was never as good as most food she'd tasted since becoming human again. When Damon suggested he might compel her, she slid him a smirk of disbelief. "You'd never do it. You like it too much when I misbehave," she raised an eyebrow and blew him a kiss. Which was good, because this afternoon she was counting on misbehaving a lot! "I know, huh? Just know before we enter that the only thing in there tastier than the food is you, my love!"

She wasn't sure whether the place had this effect on normal people or if you had to have been deprived for five hundred years to totally appreciate the sights and smells that were assailing Kat as she walked into the market, her hand slipped into Damon's. She'd actually been counting on him to make a decision because she wanted to taste everything now! Looking around she kinda wished they'd just come to her and funnel the food into her mouth to save time. Just as she thought she might be standing there forever, a spicy, meaty smell hit her. Katherine inhaled again, "that's what I want to try," she pulled him towards a stand selling Indian food. The stand was filled with tandoori meats and amazing-smelling hand-sized samosas, perfect for eating on the hunt for more treats. Katherine ordered three. One each of them, and one to take home for another day. Something in her mind told her that it could be the start of quite a haul of left-overs, but that was fine by her! "This might be the best date of my life," she told Damon with a grin as she tucked into the pocket of meat and vegetables.

“I am,” he said with a small smile. “Be afraid.” It wasn’t that he was a mind reader. He just knew Katherine wanted a car and they just hadn’t gone out and found one her for yet. “Yeah, yeah. I already said I would help you get a car. I don’t need you to convince me. Tomorrow we will go and find you something. How’s that?” Maybe then she can stop bugging him about it.

He wasn’t surprised, he really wasn’t. Katherine had pretty much been obsessed with food since the first day they went out in Breakwater Point. The obsession didn’t change one bit when they had been nabbed again. “I might shock you and do what I said.”

Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. He saw how wide eyed and happy Katherine was the minute they stepped into the food park. She was going to drag him around and get sick on food. This was going to bore him to death. “Did you order enough?” She was eating for almost three people and this was just the first food truck they ended up at. He didn’t want to imagine how much junk was going to be consumed next. “You say that now. Wait until it makes you sick.”

"Scariest thing I've heard in a while," Katherine replied with a chuckle, happy to play along. She had to give him a quick squeeze when Damon said they'd go hunting the very next day, though. "You're the best," she flashed him a happy smile, her eyes sparkling with the awesome possibilities. Under the levity she couldn't help wondering what she'd done to deserve having him in her life again after, but she was damned sure she wasn't about to screw it up again.

"So this is how it's going to be, is it? You threatening to compel me when I want to have a little fun?" Kat asked with a chuckle, knowing that Damon would never do such a thing to her. He believed in freedom more than anyone she knew. "And here was I thinking I needed the vervain to protect me from Klaus!" she gave him a playful nudge with her hip as they walked.

"That one was for you," she slipped the food into his hand, "try it. It's awesome!" Katherine rolled her eyes, "just because I ate a lot to start with doesn't mean I'm about to make myself sick," she told him as she took another bite of the food, closing her eyes and savouring the spices. Wow.

Okay, next! She gave Damon's hand a tug towards a stall selling candy and toffee apples, freshly made from real toffee, none of that nasty sugar stuff. Katherine was drooling by the time they reached the vendor, "Three toffee apples and some of that," she pointed at a stack of fudge that was piled in huge cubes along the front of the truck. The vendor looked down at her and smiled, "don't you think you should ask your mother to get your food?" he asked her with a patronizing smile that Kat really didn't understand. "My mother has been dead for over five centuries, not that it's any business of yours!" she told him curtly and turned to Damon. "I want the candy! Why won't he give it to me?" she demanded, stamping her foot impatiently.

As she did so she caught sight of her reflection in the steel housing of the truck. Katherine moved closer, starring hard at the reflection that greeted her. The steel warped the image like a fairground sideshow, but even so she could tell that there was a child starring back at her. "Damon, what the fuck is going on?" she demanded, unable to take her eyes off the trailer. She looked no more than six. No wonder she hadn't been served!

“No, I wouldn’t compel you just because you want to have fun. I would compel you when you decide standing up in a moving vehicle is the brightest thing to do.” Oh yeah, he did forget that Katherine was consuming vervain because of Klaus being around. “Funny.”

He looked down at what had been placed in his hands and then he looked over at Katherine. Okay, it looked like he was going to try this too. “We’ll see about that.”

Damon might have been dragged along to the next truck, but that didn’t mean he was paying that much attention to Katherine. He was too busy looking around, wondering where he’d get dragged along to next. Not only that, he was still eating what Katherine had shoved into his hands. He only started to pay attention when he heard a demanding, bratty child. He was about to tell its parent to take the demon child away, but there was no parent…

“Katherine?” It looked like her, just child-like, and it definitely sounded like her. But, how in the hell did she go from looking like a 19 year old to a child? “I was about to ask you the same damn thing.”

"Ummm," Katherine looked over a little sheepishly, "there are still times I kinda forget I'm human. Really gotta put more effort into personal safety, don't I?" she asked with an apologetic smile. Yeah, standing up in moving vehicles definitely wasn't the recipe for a long and healthy life, that was for sure. Still, no harm done... this time! "You know, it wouldn't have happened if I'd been driving," she slipped a smirk his way, knowing full well it'd earn her a glower or an eye-roll, and deservedly so.

She was still gaping at her reflection when Damon spoke next, but he didn't have the answers she was hoping for. Far from it! "Who did this to me?" she turned to look at him, hands on her hips and a pout on her lips. "Make them turn me back. Right now!" she demanded, "I can't run a bar when I can't see over it!" She slammed her hand against the truck stunning the vendor, who span to face her once again. "Give me a fucking toffee apple, right now, or I'm gonna scream so loud there isn't a parent in a mile that would risk bringing their kid near you!" she warned him. As the treat was handed over, with almost no grace at all, Katherine flashed him a smile, "thank you. Now, go on, go about your day!" she fluttered her hand dismissing him. "This is bad, Damon, and if I really need sugar!" she said frowning. "Was there some witchcraft or something going on that I didn't notice, what with the crappy human ears?" She slipped her hand into his once more, but that felt all kinds of wrong as she looked up at him. "Motherfucker!" she dropped his hand and the apple at the same time, clutching a hand to her mouth, where blood was seeping out into her hand. "Put in a call to the damn Toothfairy," she muttered as she pulled a tooth from her mouth and held it out. "I swear, that better grow back when I'm back to normal or I'm going to have to hurt someone!"

“If I knew do you really think I would be standing here, staring?” Wow, Katherine was a little brat. He seriously wanted to just turn around and ditch her right now. “You can’t see over much of anything, can you?” He wanted to laugh; he really did, but decided to hold it back… for now. “Katherine…” Did she really need to act like that? How in the hell did parents deal with their kids acting like this? He would want to dump them somewhere and pretend that they didn’t exist. He just shook his head when once again Katherine got watch she wanted. He guessed it didn’t matter if she were an adult or a child; she still got whatever she wanted.

“I really have no idea what happened and I don’t think we’re going to find out, either.” It could be anything. It wasn’t like they were in their own world and they had no idea what went on in this one. He threw away what he had in his hands and then turned his attention back to Katherine, who was now bleeding. “I guess you shouldn’t have been a brat when you were trying to get that toffee apple, huh?” He smirked. He should probably feel sorry for her, but he didn’t. He did notice that people were starting to stare, though. “Time to go,” he said as he picked up mini Katherine and started to walk out of the food park.

She starred back at Damon, waiting for him to figure it out. That was what he was good at, wasn't it? Being the good guy, solving the world's problems and making girls that looked a lot like her have a much nicer life? "That's right, go ahead and mock my height! Cause I definitely didn't see that coming," Katherine grumbled as she crossed her arms across her chest. "This is a disaster, I'm going to have to employ someone to carry me piggy-back so I can do my damn job!"

It really didn't help to learn that nothing out of the ordinary had happened, other than her loosing thirteen years she was rather attached to. Quite apart from the lack of height she definitely didn't want to get into the habit of loosing teeth either! It hurt a lot more than she remembered, and why adults thought a few pennies would make it all feel better was totally beyond her. "And I was not a brat! If the guy had served me when I asked him to I wouldn't have had to take matters into my own, rather small, hands!" Katherine told him sternly, "and you can stop smirking too. This isn't a laughing matter."

Before she could berate him further for his lack of empathy Damon had scooped her up and was heading out of the food park, "hey! Wait up, Damon, we barely got here." Katherine's diminutive feet kicked helplessly as he strode out towards the car and for lack of a better defence, she employed the only weapon in her arsenal. The toffee apple. Hey, it'd take out a tooth, after all! It also worked remarkably like a drumstick as she tried to bash him on the head with it, "turn around, Damon, we need to shop!"

If Katherine wanted Damon to stop smirking then she should stop giving him reasons to do it. Her bitching and complaining when she was so itty-bitty just made it smirk worthy. “Maybe it won’t last.” Not like he really knew, but he just wanted to say anything that could make her stop.

He stared down at her, eyebrow raised. “That wasn’t you stomping your feet, cussing up a storm, and demanding? Must have been your evil mini twin.” Okay, he really couldn’t hold it in anymore. He had to laugh. He had seen Katherine’s pouty face plenty of times, but it was just funny when she was so tiny.

“Yeah, and now we’re going,” he said as he kept on carrying her out of the park. “Hey, knock it off!” He stopped walking and held Katherine out at arms length so she couldn’t hit him with the damn apple again. “I swear to god if you hit me one more time with that sticky apple, you will get nothing adult-like for a month, if you return to an adult that is.”

"Oh my God, you think it's going to last!" Katherine's face became a picture of horror. "You really do, don't you? Don't give me that hopeful bullshit, you think I might actually be stuck in this Mini-Me body for good?" She was too stunned by the thought to dare speak, in case what came out would be a sting of expletives that would make even Damon blush.

"Hey! It was barely a foot stomp, and the cussing was entirely appropriate to the situation," if she'd been nineteen. "Besides, don't I have enough evil twins already without another one showing up?" Kat was desperately controlling an unmistakeable urge to kick his shins, but even she knew that wouldn't end well. "Seriously, quit laughing, Damon!" and with the laugh her resolve failed, and her tiny shoe connected with his shin, and though she knew it would be barely a tickle to the vampire it felt so satisfying! "This is not a laughing matter!" she told him with a pout.

"But I'm huuuuungry! Katherine wailed miserably, squirming for all she was worth as he held her out of thwacking distance. "Right. Cause you're going to do adult-stuff to this?" she looked down at her tiny frame and fixed him with a no-nonsense stare, "even you aren't that twisted! Besides, the apple fell off," she was sulking now. Not only had she missed out on her toffee apple but it'd attacked her and pulled out her tooth! "How about we get candy-floss?" she perked up as she spied the pink fluff in the distance, "I can't beat you up with that, can I?"

“I don’t know what to think right now.” He really didn’t. “Katherine, calm down. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

“You kicked the trailer too. Uh huh,” he said, giving her a look that pretty much said that he didn’t believe anything that came out of her mouth. “You’re right, one of you is enough.” The world didn’t need more Katherine’s, especially mini ones! “I can’t help it.” He really couldn’t. It was funny. Although, getting kicked wasn’t funny. He glared down at her. “I’m going to lock you in the trunk of the car if you don’t knock it off.”

Damon rolled his eyes. “You’re always hungry. I think your stomach isn’t even a stomach, but a bottomless pit.” He shook his head. “Clean out your ears. I said when you turn back.” Thank god for small miracles. At least now he wouldn’t have to worry about getting hit with the damn thing anymore. “You don’t even deserve it.” She really didn’t, but he started to see her expression change and that was never a good thing. “Don’t.” He wasn’t going to win and he knew it. “How about you stay right here,” he said as he put her down on the ground, “and I’ll go get it.” He really did not want to see her throw another fit at another truck. What he wanted to do was get the hell away from here and figure out what the hell was going on. “Stay put,” he said before taking off to go get the cotton candy.

Ten minutes later he walked back over to Katherine and tapped her on the shoulder. “This is your fault.” He had no where else to put the blame. And since Katherine had turned into a child first, it felt right saying that it was her fault that he was now a child too.

"Calm down?" Really? Did he think that was going to help with the freaking out, just telling her to calm down? "If I'd known it were that easy, I'd have done it already!" Katherine snapped back, unable to hold her tongue.

"The trailer deserved everything it got," she told Damon, this time a little more sullenly, and beginning to see that, perhaps, she'd acted a little out of character. Even for a six year old kid. At least the kick stopped him laughing, and this time it was Katherine's turn to laugh at his glaring. "Oooh, scary!" she pretended to quiver in her tiny shoes, though she knew Damon well enough to know that he might actually attempt it. "Stuffing a kid into the trunk is a really good way to get yourself thrown in jail, and all it would take is a scream," she fired back.

"Well it's not my damn fault I'm human, is it? Try putting that neatly in the column for Ms Gilbert, ummm?" Katherine pouted, but this time Damon actually seemed like he might be willing to get her the cotton candy. "I'll pay you back with adult-stuff when I'm back to normal," she batted her eyelashes and giggled. Had Katherine Pierce every knowingly giggled before in her entire life? "Okay, this is getting too weird," she said as much to herself as Damon. When he agreed, though, she put her hands behind her back and flashed him a smile that was all kinds of happy, standing still and proving that she wasn't about to go anywhere.

Katherine was kicking her own feet with boredom by the time the tap came and she wheeled around, ready to kick whoever it was that had dared to touch her and was faced with... Damon. Her eyebrows raised in astonishment, and that was when the laughter started, "oh, that's perfect! You're a tiny person, Damon!" she gave his chubby little cheek a squeeze and grinned, "not so funny now, huh? Did you get the cotton candy?" Kat asked hopefully, wondering if he'd had a chance to get it first. "And for the record, so not my fault. If I'd been doing this, I would have made myself older, so I could pick on you more easily," she told him sticking out her chin defiantly.

Damon really wanted to grab Katherine by the ankles and hold her upside down. Maybe that’ll cool her heels a bit.

“Uh huh.” He still wasn’t buying it. “Good thing I can compel my way out of anything you try throw at me, hm?” God, he really hoped Katherine didn’t stay like this. She was annoying! Good thing he never got a chance to have kids… he might have sold them off!

“Okay, never say anything like that until you look like you again,” he said with a look that had been a mix of horror and disgust. “You think?” It was beyond weird.

“Shut up,” he said as he tried to smack her hands away from his face. “Maybe.” He grinned before he pulled out the bag of cotton candy. “Whatever. I’m still blaming you. And I’m keeping the candy.” He stuck his tongue out at her and then started to walk away from her and out of the park.

Okay, that was true, Damon could easily just compel his way out of trouble. He did it all the time in the real world, so why shouldn't this be any different. If he was going to try and force her to behave she'd have to come up with something far more imaginative than a simple scream.

Katherine couldn't help but laugh at the expression on his face, though her suggestion could be seen as fairly inappropriate she still, mostly, felt like a grown up. Just, you know, in the body of a little person. "Deal. I think this is weird enough without considering what might happen if I were like this for good." She had absolutely no intention of that happening. Not now, not ever! She'd dealt with childhood once and couldn't wait for it to end, so much so that she'd barely entered adulthood before giving birth to Nadia. There was no way she was going through that again!

She giggled again as he slapped at her, "you smack like a little girl now," Kat told him with a grin but when he pulled out the candy floss she quit right away. "You aren't going to share? No fair, Damon!" her foot my well have stamped once more, if she hadn't caught it in time and held it still. "I didn't do a damn thing, and taking my candy isn't going to change that!" She followed ran after him, her tiny feet clattering along in her tiny heels. At least her clothes shrank with her, though she was slightly inappropriately dressed for a six-year old. Oh well, nothing she could do about that now, besides, she had more important things to think about like getting her hands on the candy floss. Katherine made a grab for the bag and Damon held it fast. "Okay, so not right. You get to keep your vamp powers too?" A thought struck her, "do vampire teeth come in the baby variety? Wonder what would happen if you lost one of those!" she grinned, her new gap proudly on show. "Better not eat anything, or you might loose it!" she said as they reached the car.

“Oh yeah?” Damon socked Katherine right in the arm. “Did I hit you like a girl that time?” he asked with a huge smirk. “Ha-ha, it’s all mine.” He pulled a piece of the cotton candy out of the bag and shoved it into his mouth, hoping that it pissed Katherine off. “You hit me with your apple and kicked me.” Damon might have turned into a child, like Katherine, but he still had his vampire abilities and when Katherine reached for the bag he quickly moved it out of her reach. “Hmmm…” She did ask a very good question. “Maybe.” He had been turned into a tiny tot, so obviously everything about him was going to be kid-like. “It would grow back. I am a vampire after all.” He stopped walking once they reached the car. He just stared at the Mustang before he turned his attention to Katherine. “I can’t drive when I’m stuck like this.” They were going to have to wait around to see if this problem of theirs went away, call somebody to get them, or walk. “This is your fault!” Yep, he was back to blaming Katherine.

"Hey, OW!" Katherine felt tears spring to her eyes as the pain from the thump spread through her arm, deadening it. "What did you have to do that for?" She stamped on Damon's foot, hoping to wipe that smirk from his face once and for all. "You're not being very nice, I hope you know that, Damon!" she said with a pout, scuffing her shoes as she walked along beside him, waiting for him to get bored of teasing her. It was all well and good being little, but fighting a vampire wasn't fun when you where human, however big you were.

"Are you sure it would grow back?" she asked, "I mean, usually you've already gotten rid of your baby teeth way before you end up getting turned and they do kinda have to grow back in, right? I think you should let me do the eating, cause it would be really bad if you ended up not being able to bite people," she told him with a slow nod, trying to convince him. "I only hit you with the apple cause you were taking me away from all the good stuff, and it's not like the kick hurt or anything!"

Kat rolled her eyes when Damon blamed her, yet again, and stuck her tongue out through the gap in her teeth. "I didn't do it! Will you just get over blaming me and get in the car!" She unlocked the door and shoved him into the driver's seat and scooted down into the foot-well. "Well go on then, switch it on, and I'll do the peddles, you do the steering! Teamwork, it's a new concept that it's time you learned!"
