The moment he saw Jenny, The Doctor's face broke into a huge smile and he opened his arms to hug her. It still overwhelmed him to know that he had a daughter - here and now and not on a burned up planet in the middle of the galaxy. It felt good! She felt good and there was some part of him that never wanted to let her go so that he could protect her forever, but all good hugs had to come to an end, even birthday hugs.
"Glad you approve," The Doctor stepped back and tilted the hat at a rakish angle and eyed Jenny happily. "I've got one for you too. Well, actually, I have two, because I wasn't quite sure which party you'd like best," it was probably best to explain inside and he took his daughter's hand and slipped through the blue doors into the control room. "I know it's not technically your birthday for a few days, but I got a bit excited and carried away," The Doctor explained, "so rather than sit around twitching and getting annoying, I thought we should get on and have it. Besides, it's the weekend and your friends are more likely to be around."
He led Jenny through the TARDIS and down a long corridor until he came to a pair of double doors. "I wasn't quite sure what you'd be in the mood for," he pulled a bejewelled mask out of his pocket and handed it to her. "A little something I borrowed from Marie Antoinette," The Doctor grinned at the memory, "this is party hat number one, which goes with this," he threw open the double doors displaying the ball room in all it's glory. The chandeliers winked prettily from their fixtures in the high ceilings and the string quartet began to play Happy Birthday. A long buffet table was piled high with luxurious delights from around the galaxy and at the centre was a birthday cake shaped to look like the Palace of Versaille. "Do you like it, or is it too posh?" he asked a little nervously.
