Who: The Doctor and OPEN TO EVERYONE!! (Especially Jenny ;) )
Where: The TARDIS (in Jenny's garden)
When: Saturday
What: It's Jenny's birthday, it's time to celebrate
Status: Open
Warnings: Will update if necessary

OOC: Feel free to have your people already in the TARDIS as surprise guests, should you wish to. Jump on in one and all :)

Technically speaking, the TARDIS was big enough for as many guests as Jenny wanted to invite to her party, but The Doctor decided to deck out only the most formal ballroom and also the disco...did they still call it a disco, or was that an 80s construct? Either way, he wasn't entirely sure what would make his daughter the most happy - balloons and music to boogie to or champagne and a string quartet. So he planned two parties, that could be taken anywhere in the world that Jenny wanted to visit. It was her first birthday and The Doctor didn't know how many others he would get to share with her. So he went to town. And to the cake shop, where he bought the biggest birthday cake he could find.

"Right, then," he looked around at his handy work, happy with the job he'd done on the place. "I think we're open for business! And if Jenny won't come to the party, the party shall go to her!" The Doctor darted around the console and the TARDIS engines sprang into action as he finessed her controls and lifted her out of his back garden and off towards his daughter's.

Five minutes later he was throwing open the doors of his Blue Box, party hat in place and blowing on a whistle-thing that unfurled as it made celebratory noises. "Hey, Jenny!" he called madly from the garden, "Happy Birthday, daughter of mine! Come and see what I have for you!"

Alerted by the sound of the TARDIS engines, Jenny was already at the back door by the time the Doctor started hollering. It was a surprise, to say the least, mostly because her birthday wasn't until Thursday - but then, she'd been working long enough now that once it occurred to her it was relatively simple to grasp that parties during the middle of the week wouldn't necessarily be the best idea. Besides, she was hardly going to complain about celebrating early.

She fair bounded down the back yard with for once little to curb her natural high energy - no disasters in three weeks now (a significant length of time, at her age), her favourite of the Doctor's companions recently arrived with head not exploding, and a party in the TARDIS. She adored the TARDIS, instinctively aware that it was far more than just a ship; if she'd had her own she'd probably live in it full-time.

"Great hat!" she exclaimed as she reached the TARDIS doors, greeting the Doctor with an enthusiastic hug.

The moment he saw Jenny, The Doctor's face broke into a huge smile and he opened his arms to hug her. It still overwhelmed him to know that he had a daughter - here and now and not on a burned up planet in the middle of the galaxy. It felt good! She felt good and there was some part of him that never wanted to let her go so that he could protect her forever, but all good hugs had to come to an end, even birthday hugs.

"Glad you approve," The Doctor stepped back and tilted the hat at a rakish angle and eyed Jenny happily. "I've got one for you too. Well, actually, I have two, because I wasn't quite sure which party you'd like best," it was probably best to explain inside and he took his daughter's hand and slipped through the blue doors into the control room. "I know it's not technically your birthday for a few days, but I got a bit excited and carried away," The Doctor explained, "so rather than sit around twitching and getting annoying, I thought we should get on and have it. Besides, it's the weekend and your friends are more likely to be around."

He led Jenny through the TARDIS and down a long corridor until he came to a pair of double doors. "I wasn't quite sure what you'd be in the mood for," he pulled a bejewelled mask out of his pocket and handed it to her. "A little something I borrowed from Marie Antoinette," The Doctor grinned at the memory, "this is party hat number one, which goes with this," he threw open the double doors displaying the ball room in all it's glory. The chandeliers winked prettily from their fixtures in the high ceilings and the string quartet began to play Happy Birthday. A long buffet table was piled high with luxurious delights from around the galaxy and at the centre was a birthday cake shaped to look like the Palace of Versaille. "Do you like it, or is it too posh?" he asked a little nervously.

Historical references - cultural ones, at least - were somewhat lost on Jenny; as far as she was concerned, Marie Antoinette might as well have been some social acquaintance she'd yet to meet, while honestly one culture's posh was another's embarrassingly kitsch. Delicate, beautiful things did tend to indicate prestige, though, and her eyes widened a little when she saw that cake. Delicate, beautiful things that were made solely to be eaten were pretty much the definition of pointless extravagance. Not something she ever would have expected when she'd emerged from the progenation machine ready to fling herself into battle with not even a name to distinguish herself from the other foot soldiers. "It's beautiful!"

For a long moment she almost didn't register the meaning of the Doctor's words as she took in the hanging crystals, the costumes, the music, the rest of the food... then she turned to give him an almost suspicious look. "There's more than this??"

He could see Jenny eyeing the room in wonder and he could tell that she wasn't just looking, she was </i>analysing</i>. The Doctor felt a strange pang of pride at that, because anyone could look at stuff but it took intelligence and understanding to really study it. Perhaps it was because he hadn't spent enough time with her, or that maybe Jenny hadn't learned enough about her own tastes yet, that The Doctor had been so wishy washy about planning these events. He realised that she might not like either party, which would be a bit of an anticlimax to all his work. When she saw the cake, though, a little of his worry dribbled away. "It is, rather, isn't it?" he grinned, "one day I'll show you the original and maybe even introduce you to Marie Antoinette herself - she lived there, you know?" He decided not to add that she'd also been his lover, in a strange kind of way.

"Oh yes!" The Doctor nodded happily, "it's the TARDIS, there's always more! his arm wrapped around her shoulder in an excited hug. "Come on," he led Jenny back out of the ball room and through a corridor to another set of identical doors. The room was soundproofed so even from their current position there was barely a sound to be heard beyond and before he opened the door, The Doctor whipped a paper party hat out of his pocket and traded it with Jenny's mask, "this is far more fitting," he said with a reassuring wink. When he threw the doors wide there was a near assault of sound. Happy Birthday To You by Altered Images was pumping from the sound system at the heart of the flashing lights that projected patterns and shadows on every facet of the room. Like everything associated with The Doctor it was over the top and to the rear of the dance floor, beside the bar (technically Jenny wasn't 18 yet, but did that really matter? Or was the drinking age 21 here...it was the TARDIS, it was whatever The Doctor decided it should be, he concluded.) was a buffet table piled high with sausage rolls, sandwiches, jellies, cakes, crisps, salads and every combination of modern party-food he could get his hands on. The centre piece of this spread was a tired tower of cupcakes, all decorated with images of his friends and companions, past and present. "I MADE THEM MYSELF," The Doctor yelled above the noise, "CLARA HELPED!" it would be wrong to take full credit for the creation, but he brimmed with pride non-the-less. It was the most fun he'd had at The Cupcakery since he'd started work there and secretly he liked this party far more than the more formal affair. He wondered which Jenny would like best.

Where the first room was clearly focused on works of artistry that presumably had spent a lot of people a lot of time to learn to create, the second seemed designed to appeal to distinct chemical impulses to trigger the increased flow of adrenalin and serotonin. Excitement, rather than higher order appreciation. Having to choose between them was... difficult. She liked exploring unfamiliar culture (and that cake really did look amazing), but she also liked adrenalin. Running away from danger, running into danger, doing pretty much anything that only felt dangerous...

Not to mention the habits she'd developed on travels between planets of not wasting anything because you never really knew exactly how long you might have to make things stretch. People seemed to be a lot more lax about that here, and with the huge stores full of foods she couldn't even imagine it was plain why, the planet was clearly capable of massive amounts of production.

The deciding factor, really, was the Doctor's brag about the cupcakes. Family loyalty lead her to want to try the things that people she knew had put effort into, especially since he and Clara ran a cupcake shop. They had to be good if people were willing to pay for them. "Let's start here!" Maybe later she'd duck into the other room for a while, when she'd worked off a bit of the excitement of the surprise.

Jack was already in the ballroom, nibbling on one of the cupcakes as waited for the Doctor and the guest of honor to arrive. "I was beginning to wonder if you two had gotten lost," he joked. "And remind me to tell Clara later that these things are really good."

He grinned and walked over, popping the rest of the small dessert into his mouth before giving Jenny a hug. "Happy birthday, kiddo."

For a moment all the strings and loops of time, possible time and potential time collapsed as Jack approached, the room sort of tilting towards him from all directions. It was a strange sensation, but one Jenny was fairly used to by now. Some days at work it happened on a regular basis as he moved around the range keeping an eye on things and as far as she was concerned it was a normal a characteristic of Jack as the way she had to lean up on tip toes to hug him back. "You just wanted an excuse to start eating, didn't you?" she accused with a grin, which was a little ironic an accusation from her considering she was still working her way through the supermarket on a quest to try everything on the shelves.

Rose had helped the Doctor decorate for Jenny's birthday party. Like all his companions, Rose knew that the Doctor cared for Jenny, but being she was his daughter, she was especially close to his hearts. Rose couldn't fault him for how obsessive he seemed to be when it came to her, and she could only do her best to help him when it came to things regarding Jenny. She didn't have a mother, and she was still very young. Rose wasn't sure if she would ever be a good mother. Perhaps she would never find out, but this would be her only chance.

"Jenny's going to love this, Doctah," Rose had reassured him with a wink. Her accent was especially thick today, though the reason for that was unknown. Before Jenny could arrive, Rose had slipped out of the TARDIS to freshen up and change into her party outfit. By the time she returned, Jenny, the Doctor and even Jack were all inside the TARDIS.

"Hope I didn't miss any of the fun!" She grinned at all of them and headed straight for Jenny, giving her a big hug. "Happy birthday, Jenny. Oh, I wasn't sure what to get you yet, so I hope you'll forgive me for the impersonal gift certificate." She handed Jenny an envelope with a gift certificate inside that she could use wherever she wanted. "But maybe we could go out together to use it whenever you'd like."
