Jess was usually fast asleep by midnight, barring any animal-related emergencies, but tonight was apparently an exception. she wasn't sure what was keeping her mind occupied and sleep at bay - maybe the unusual lack of activity in her day. Despite how much exploring she did, it couldn't quite replace chasing various animals around for twelve hours a day. Or maybe she just wanted a few hours to herself where no one was complaining about the enforced healthier diet. Losing the caffeine and sugar in the house was unfortunate (as she enjoyed her morning coffee), but it was hardly as life-threatening as some in the house seemed to be making it out to be.
Either way, Jess had been in her room, catching up on her reading (another thing there didn't seem to be a lot of time for during one of her normal days), when she heard a slightly muffled but very plaintive "What did I do?" coming from down the hall. Setting her book aside, she opened her door, glanced around, and immediately deduced the source of the noise to have come from the open door on her left.
Padding barefoot down the hall, she poked her head in - and was immediately surprised. Everything was soaked, and it looked like the place had been tossed - unless the occupant was just unusually messy. Speaking of - the owner of the room was clearly the one sitting in the middle of the floor, crying. Jess didn't waste any more time before wading in and crouching beside her. "Come on now, sweetheart," she said the remnants of her Alabama accent twanging around the endearment. "It's just water. A whole lot of it, granted, but nothing we can't fix. What happened? Pipes burst?" That could be a concern for the whole house, if that was the case.
